Use Google Maps in Space

As of August 2024, Google Sky Maps is no longer available. You can continue to view the Moon, Mars, and Sky in Google Earth Pro. To view the Moon, Mars, and other planets, go to Google Maps in Space.

Important: For Google Maps in Space to work, turn on Globe view.

You can view a number of celestial objects like the International Space Station, planets, or the Earth’s moon in Google Maps in Space.

Turn on Globe view

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps in Space.
  2. At the bottom left, hover over “Layers.”
  3. Click More.
  4. Check the box next to “Globe view.”
  5. Refresh the webpage.

Move around

There are 2 ways to change your view of the planet.

Pan

To pan, or move the map:

  • Drag the view in any direction.
  • To move North, press the Up arrow.
  • To move South, press the Down arrow.
  • To move East, press the Right arrow.
  • To move West, press the Left arrow.

Zoom in or out

To zoom in and out of the sky:

  • Press the + or - key.
  • Move your cursor over a place on the map and use the mouse scroll button.
  • Drag the zoom slider up or down.

Tip: To center and zoom in on a place, double click the place.

View different planets

To view different locations in Google Maps in Space:

  1. Go to the left side of the screen.
  2. Click a different location.

Tip: To hide the sidebar with the list of locations, click the arrow on the right hand side. To show, click the same arrow again.

Find more info about a landmark

To find the info about a landmark, click on the landmark name on the map. The landmark info appears on the left sidebar.

Share a link

To share a link to your current view on a website or to others:

  1. Copy the web address in the address bar.
  2. Paste the address in an email or message field.
  3. Send it to someone.
