Download and Install Google Chrome on Windows 11

Looking for a Google Chrome setup file download for Windows 11? This page has valuable information about downloading, installing, and configuring Google Chrome on Windows operating systems.

Windows 11 for Chrome
Windows 11 for Chrome

To download Google Chrome for Windows 11, go to google.com/chrome

Google Chrome is the world’s favorite browser. Google has an open-source project called Chromium, and Chrome is Chromium + Google’s exclusive features like sync, autofill, and more.

Download Chrome for Windows 11

The newest version of Microsoft Windows is here.

Note: Google Chrome is no longer officially supported on Windows XP. I recommend upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Windows to continue using Chrome and get all the new features and security updates.

Windows 11 is a big update for Microsoft (and that’s why they skipped the number 9, to make the point). Their effort is to make Windows a platform in this multi-screen world and prepare it for the Internet of things era. There is even a new default web browser named Edge (more on that later).

I downloaded and installed Windows 11 when it came out as a Tech Preview and started using Google Chrome on it right away. I completed the Installation without any issues or errors. There are no surprises yet, apart from minor tweaks that come with Windows 11.

It will be interesting to watch the improvements Google will bring to Chrome to use any new feature that Windows 11 offers to applications. For example, will they do something with the live tiles?

You can download the same Windows installer available at google.com/chrome to install Chrome on Windows 11. I could get Chrome working on my Windows 11 PC within minutes.

Now that your Google Chrome web browser download is done, let us look at some of the things you can do with your new favorite browser.

Install Chrome for Windows 11

Here are the steps to install Google Chrome on your Windows 11 computer.

  1. Go to google.com/chrome and click Download Chrome.Download Google Chrome for Windows 11
  2. On the popup, click Accept and Install.Accept and Install Chrome
  3. Your browser will now download the Google Chrome installer. Click Save to download and save the installer file.Save Chrome Installer File
  4. After the download is complete, double-click the installer. Click “RunClick Run to Start Installation
  5. If a prompt appears asking for permission to install, click Yes. Google Chrome will now complete the remaining download and install it.

Make Chrome the Default Browser

You find our guide to making Chrome your default browser here. That guide provided you with multiple options to make Chrome your default browser. Here is one example from there:

  1. Go to settings in Chrome, (click the settings icon or open chrome://settings)
  2. Search for “Default Browser”
  3. Click “Make Chrome my default browser”
  4. And you are done.

Google Chrome Slow on Windows 11

Here are some troubleshooting steps to try when Chrome starts working slowly and loading pages slowly. I have collected a bunch of fixes here. Try them out; I am sure one of these will work for you.

This guide is organized into operating-system-specific steps for Windows, Linux, OS X, and Chrome OS. Try the steps listed in the “All operating systems” section first before trying OS-specific steps.

All Operating Systems

  1. Try the incognito window ( CTRL + SHIFT + N ). This launches Chrome without any extensions if you haven’t enabled them in incognito mode). If Google Chrome is working better in this mode, the culprit is extensions. Try disabling them one by one and find out which one is the troublemaker.
  2. Go to Chrome Settings > Advanced Settings > Privacy and uncheck “Predict network actions to improve page load performance“. This seems to be helping in some cases. Give it a try.
  3. Try clearing browser data, history, cache, etc from settings.
  4. Search for “Reset browser”. This will reset the Chrome profile to default settings.
  5. From chrome://flags, try resetting all flags to default.

Windows

  1. Open up the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).  Click the processes tab and look for something that looks like Browser Manager.  If you have it, try googling for directions on how to remove it.  Restart your computer after the uninstall. This should fix the issue for you.
  2. Similarly, look for a program called BrowserProtect. Remove it, restart your computer and try again.

Google Chrome Slow to Start

If Google Chrome is slow on startup, here is something that you can try:

  1. Try disabling all the extensions, and see if Chrome loads faster
  2. If you are opening Chrome with many tabs on the launch, reduce them
  3. Try (temporarily) disabling your antivirus software and if it is showing any improvement.
  4. Check your list of software installed on the PC. If you find any suspicious software, (Babylon, etc) uninstall and restart your computer.

Delete “User Data”

This is a bit tricky, but user jim38 on Google Help Forum has a solution that might help you. Be sure to take a backup of your bookmarks, as explained here.

  1. Choose Bookmarks/Bookmark Manager/Organize. 2. Export your bookmarks to an HTML file — somewhere you can find it. 3. Close Chrome. 4. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data (fill in your computer username) 5. Right-click on the User Data folder and rename it. I just add an X to the end of the name. 6. Restart Chrome, go to the Bookmark Manager, and import the bookmarks.

Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge?

Microsoft has upped its browser game with an all-new browser, Edge. The browser leaves the Internet Explorer legacy and builds a new and modern browser from the ground up. Initial responses to the Edge browser have been positive. Hence, we can safely assume that tough competition awaits Google on the Windows platform.

People will check out Edge when it is available on Windows 11. There are plenty of Internet Explorer lovers still around, and Edge will be a blessing for them.

We will still use Edge or IE to download Chrome on our new Windows 11 computers for Chrome fans like you and me. We will have to wait and see how the rest of the world responds to this new competition.

Click these download links for 64 and 32 Bit versions of Google Chrome for Windows 11.

Note: These are official download links directly from Google. You can find additional download links here. Remember to download Google Chrome only from Google’s website.

Google Chrome 64-bit version is now available for all Windows users. This is a separate installer, so a particular download is different from the regular installer file. An offline installer is also available for Windows users who want to download and install Google Chrome.

64-Bit Chrome for Windows 11

You can download it from here. Next, click Download Chrome for another platform and choose Windows 11/8/7 64-bit. This should download the 64-bit installer. Note that it is the same installer for all supported Windows versions.

You can also download the 64-bit version of Chrome Canary for Windows from here.

Chrome Does Not Recognize Touch in Windows 11

Touch screen issues with Chrome and Windows 11? try this:

  1. Go to chrome://flags
  2. Look for the flag Enable Touch Events
  3. Enable Touch Events
  4. Restart Chrome.

How to minimize Google Chrome in Windows 11?

Click the Settings icon on the top right corner to go to settings. And from there, click Relaunch in Desktop Mode. Google Chrome will now restart into normal mode. This is your regular Google Chrome (non-metro mode). Alt+F is your keyboard shortcut. I hope you got that fixed.

Show Chrome in a Resizeable Window?

Same answer as above. Alt+F is your keyboard shortcut. Alternatively, choose Relaunch in Desktop Mode from the Settings menu (the bacon icon).

Exit Chrome Full-Screen Mode on Windows 11

The same answer again. It would be best if you exited out of Metro Mode. Press Alt + F.

Pinch to Zoom

Pinch to Zoom is one of the most asked-for features of Google Chrome for Windows 8. This feature has been added to Google Chrome now. Enable the Enable Pinch flag to test this.

  1. Open chrome://flags/#enable-pinch on Google Chrome.
  2. From the dropdown list, select Enable
  3. Restart Google Chrome
  4. Try pinching to zoom now.

Uninstall Chrome from Windows Windows 11

You can quickly get to the Uninstall a Program window easily by pressing the Windows key and typing Uninstall in the search box. Once you reach this screen, look for Google Chrome and click Uninstall against it.

Google Chrome on Windows 11 – Download

It is just the same Google Chrome browser that you download from google.com/chrome. The download and installation went pretty smoothly. I use Chromesync, so getting everything back, including my extensions and passwords, was easy and smooth.

When you start downloading, Google first gives you a small file, which starts downloading the complete installer. A sort of download manager. Once the download is full, you can double-click the file to begin your Installation.

Unable To Download Google Chrome On Windows

Are you getting error messages while downloading Google Chrome? For example, “Installation failed due to unspecified error”? Here are some troubleshooting steps to try.

Google Chrome usually downloads a small file to your computer, which connects to the server and downloads the complete file. When you face issues with this traditional way of downloading Chrome, the complete offline installer is the first to try.

This offline installer download involves only one file and should resolve most of the issues associated with downloading and installing Google Chrome.

Seeing the taskbar in Metro mode is intentional. From the screenshot you are running the metro mode app on the desktop in a window. This is a new Windows 10 feature.

I dunno how you would launch in full metro mode, you probably need to switch the start menu back to the start screen and launch it from there. I haven’t tried out the preview yet (I want to be able to dedicate enough time to set everything up the way I want it first).

    1. The MAZZTer Avatar
      The MAZZTer

Also I didn’t do an update myself, since the Preview will stop working in April (and “stop working” usually means “starts blue screening every couple of hours until you do a clean install of a full Windows”).

  2. U have to run metro apps in full screen to get rid of the taskbar. Click on the 3 dots in the upper left corner and choose full screen.

  3. Hugh Isaacs II Avatar

“It gives us the Metro Mode Chrome, but this time on Windows 10, I still see the Windows Task Bar at the bottom.

I think that’s how Microsoft wanted it to look, because I can see the task bar when I use other Metro apps. May be this is a bug that they are yet to fix?”

    It’s to stay that way.
Metro apps now run alongside Classic Windows apps on the desktop.

It should only run differently on tablets.

  4. What on earth is the intended functionality of the top task bar? Apps already have “close” and “minify” in top right.
This seems like a complete waste of vertical space. If we needed a top task bar we’d install Mac Os

Having the taskbar remain up when running apps is one of the major IMPROVEMENTS of Windows 10. Unless you are running on a tablet device, people rarely want an application to be full-screen edge to edge. That option exists in Windows 10, but thankfully is not the default and forced upon every app.

    1. So, do you think Chrome can provide an option to open it without the close button? Because, Google can give a Chrome OS like UI with that (+ metro mode)

Running 64 bit Chrome and Win10. So far it has been pretty smooth. Needed do download a driver for an old Epson 1670 and company provided anti-virus Symantec Enterprise Protection won’t yet run. I needed to manually update March 2015 updates for Win10. It might have done this automatically but I did not wait.

I know this story is a bit old. But I have downloaded the 64 bit chrome. there is no option that says ‘relauch in windows 8 mode’ and yet every site says that to get the metro UI to hit the little bars in the corner click that option. there is no such option. in that menu. is it hidden somewhere else, or is it no longer possible?

Interesting. Chrome (32-bit} is the default on my system. I do have a user account, but when I use it, nothing happens. Most of the time I can make it work by opening Chrome as Administrator from within the user account, but even though it is the default app, it will not open when the program is closed and I click a link external to the browser, nothing happens. So sadly, I am using Edge, right now, and I don’t like it one bit.

  16. After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, Google Chrome did not work. After looking all over the internet noting worked. Then I went in to properties of Google Chrome, and un-clicked the Windows 8 compatibility, and Chrome worked.

    1. That would work if when you right click Settings to go in there it would show up, but when you click on settings, the window opens nut is blank. This will definitely hurt Microsoft if people can’t use the other browsers they have grown a custom to !

      1. You have to go to the Google Chrome icon (shortcut). Right click , properties, compatibility. In ‘compatibility mode’ un-click the box for ‘run this program…’

After the installation right click on the shortcut -> properties – > compatibility -> click on ‘Run compatibility troubleshooter’ and follow the steps. That’s all – Windows 10 will fix the issue for you. Enjoy

    1. Only problem is that Windows 10 will not let you uninstall Chrome form the upgrade. It says close all windows in Chrome on Windows 8 before uninstalling. Kind of hard to do when you already did the upgrade don’t ya think !

  20. For anyone upgrading to the New Windows 10 and if you are using Google Chrome as a browser. If you were using Chrome in Windows 8.1 after upgrading to Windows 10 it will not work so just be aware ! To solve this issue, you can Download Google Chrome Canary (Version :46.0.2471.0) 64 Bit. It worked for me and was mentioned in another post by (Anna Zdunkiewicz) to try and it worked ! I am sure Google or Microsoft will correct this issue in the future. if I uninstall my previous chrome in windows 7 and install the google chrome canary, will it still have my saved passwords and bookmarks?

      1. You will have to log back into Chrome using the log on name and password that you used when you signed up, but yes when you sign in everything will be as you left it. That is one good thing about Chrome. The only way all your bookmarks and such would be gone is if you cancel the account. Hope this helps !

From installing Windows 10, there has only been one day when Google Chrome worked perfectly. First of all the touchscreen didn’t work on Chrome, though it did for any other app. Then Chrome did not launch at all. At the moment I’m forced to use Microsoft Edge. I have a surface 2 8.1 RT and chrome. I have been toying with downloading Windows 10. I recently bought a chrome book and when I read on a chromneboiok description that you could download to windows 10 I did a search and landed here, My new chromebook box is not even opened yet it is a toshiba chrome book 2. I was sad to read that chrome DOES NOT support touch screen. I feel like I jumped the gun buying a chrome book before researching it. It will remain in the box untouched until I decide what to do. I also like touch and have gotten very use to it. So you are able to use touch on microsoft stuff but not chrome from my understanding,

    2. I don’t care about the touchscreen, but I *do* care about the fact that Chrome started running like 27 copies on STARTUP and constantly in the background. I have gotten a ton of great advice and had set up some nice protection for my new Win10 computer using Chrome w/ plug-ins, but at this moment, after a forced factory reset caused mostly by MS “support” banging around on my desktop but certainly STARTED b/c of a chrome update that installed like Windows 10 updates –> without asking you or considering what you might be doing at that moment (despite me having worked very hard to make it at least bend to my will regarding downloads. Windows downloads were doing what I asked: asking me, but Chrome barreled in & just started a huge mess w/ all sorts of nonsense.) NO WAY am I going to willingly subject myself to MS support again just to use Chrome. They are going to need to figure out how to handle the updates, which have changed drastically, and sadly – it is clear that both MS and the various PC companies (in my case, HP) do not really understand the ins and outs of Win10 like they should. I got more help from HowToGeek than any official support that I am under warrantee to use freely.

I installed chrome on Win10 and it is working fine. One thing I found is that some apps toolbars dissapear but when you hover your mouse over it, it will highlight the option you hover. It has to do with the way Win10 handles contrast colors. You will see an example when using CorelDraw. But Corel has an update that fix that.

Google Chrome worked perfectly for me after installing Windows 10 back on August 3. It worked consistently until August 31 when the latest of several updates arrived from Windows. First, Chrome was alright, but I began to have issues with Windows 10 itself. Opening up “This PC” resulted in a failure to display active icons of the various partitions and external drives. Also photos would not display correctly in their folders. The 64 bit Windows 10 Professional was affected in this way first, but Google Chrome still worked. Then around September 2 there were issues with Google Chrome but only in the 64 bit environment. The 32 bit environment worked fine on either networked PC running Windows 10 or 7 until Friday, September 4. Now I can no longer use Google Chrome at all across the entire network. I uninstalled Chrome, but when I try to reinstall from the original download it fails. If I re-download and install Google Chrome it downloads, then it installs, but then it immediately crashes. Why it worked for a month and now not all all is a complete mystery.

I have the exact same problem – worked fine initially, then got really slow/crashed loads after about a month and now it just won’t open at all. Reinstalled it and no change. I refuse to conform and switch to using edge and am only using it till Chrome sorts this problem out!!

I had to uninstall Chrome after the upgrade and when I tried to reinstall it, I get an “unspecified installation error” and it will not install. Anyone else run into this and/or know a fix for it? It does not matter which browser I try to get the download from (Firefox, IE, Edge, etc.), I get the same message when trying to install. Help!

My guess is that Microsoft have ensured that Chrome is as difficult as possible to load/use in order to drive customers into the arms of Edge.

Well I’m so surprised to hear of the many complaints and issues everyone is having. I would like to report that I have had not one issue with Windows 10 working with Google Chrome. I think that it can depend on what you use your PC for as to how good it works or not too.

In this case you need to use Windows task manager by right clicking on the ask bar and kill the Chrome process. This will stop all running Chrome processes. Also ‘Chrome Canary’ works but I prefer to use the original version of Chrome.

  45. Thanks this is really helpful
