We were there for the Virginia Garden Tour. We had a beautiful stone cottage with 2 bedrooms, living with fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. The breakfast is wonderful with local foods. The dining room in the evening is a great place. The menu is fabulous and I wanted everything on it.
There are many places to eat in Middleburg and this is one of my favorites.

We just returned from our two night getaway to Goodstone Inn, and had a fantastic time. It was exactly what we were looking for - a relaxing trip with good food, good wine, and good scenery. Highly recommend it to anyone, especially in the DC area, as both the Inn and surrounds felt removed from normal everyday activities at only an hour away. A few highlights:

* We stayed in the junior suite, which was spacious enough for us. It was attached to the main carriage house, but never had any issues with sound. Slept great, both at night and during several naps.

* COVID safety - this was one of the reasons why we chose Goodstone. We had direct access to our room, everything was very clean, people wore masks, and the grounds were very spread out in terms of guests. We were also able to eat outside of our room on our patio, and the staff was very accommodating to make that happen. Not sure if that is normal during non COVID times, but if we went back in the future, we would probably ask if they would do that again. Felt like private fine dining and we could duck into our room if we needed anything.

* Speaking of dining, the food was excellent! We ate there both nights, doing a la carte the first and the tasting the second. While the short ribs and chicken (night 1) were great, the tasting experience was the highlight of our trip. Our waiter was spot on with the pacing between courses and describing the course/wine pairing, and the food itself was incredible. Also, the breakfast was top notch. We loaded up with french toast, eggs, sausage, and bacon both mornings...

* Grounds - We did the nature trail hike that looped the property. We were told that if we saw some cows, just to be bold and keep walking. Didn't think anything of it until we were about halfway through and ran into cows everywhere. On the trail, around it, just hanging out doing cow activities. We managed to be bold, and the whole adventure was second top highlight of the trip. Also, the views from area by the main house were great for relaxing and reading/sipping wine outside. We'll have to go back in the summer next time for the pool.

* Finally, the staff were attentive, polite, and made sure we had everything we needed. Rooms and main area were clean, grounds well kept, and everyone was very attentive. Thanks so much to everyone on the staff for making sure we had a great trip!

Recommend Goodstone Inn to anyone looking to get a quick escape that feels a lot farther away then it actually is.

Our Valentine's Day stay and dinner at Goodstone was superb! The entire staff at the Inn and restaurant made us feel very special and went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect. The food and service at the restaurant could not have been better. Our cottage was great and better than most B&Bs we have stayed in. I highly recommend Goodstone.

We were very excited to stay here for our annual Scrabble tournament and New Year’s dinner with longtime friends. Beautiful property, nice room (Stallion Suite) but managers were very inflexible for New Year’s dinner. We were given the choice of 5 pm (?????) or 9pm. Too early or late. The 9pm seating was later canceled, without us being informed in advance, Probably because dinner was $300 or more per person and more with wine pairings. So we argued to get in at 7 —- and the room was half full. Pretentious multi courses, some good, but overcooked pasta and almost inedible shoe leather beef tenderloin. I cooked better for Christmas. For breakfast, the espresso machine was broken, saving us from $10 lattes. Regular coffee is included. The TV in our room was near impossible to figure out and the offered pound cake treat was stale. Staff was willing but service was not smooth. We waited for a front desk person to check in. What we objected to most were the prices … it is insane to charge $25-$35 for a glass of wine and $24 for a five-ounce cocktail. The bed was comfortable, but the floor was not clean. And being told we had to breakfast by 9:30 am New Year’s Day? Luckily they were flexible, but we felt the cards were stacked for the owners’ convenience. Not sure we will be back.

The Goodstone Inn is an absolute must repeat for a quiet and elegant getaway. Everything, was absolutely perfect. The French Farm Cottage was peaceful and comfortable with working fireplaces pre-set for a cold morning treat. Everything about dinner at the Conservatory Restuarant was amazing and the room itself was unbelievable. Everyone at the Inn was amazing, they made you feel like being at home. The hike around the property was equally wonderful. A beautiful spot. The attention to detail was the best I have ever experienced. I cannot say enough good things. Thank you for a delightful getaway!

We cant say enough about the wonderful warm service. We stayed in the Bull Barn which was a perfect walk to the main building, best shower ever and plenty of room to spread out. Quiet (other than the fun animals outside) . We took the hike around the property which was lovely, important (for us) that we took the provided walking sticks, lots of ups and downs and mud and walking over water. We somehow missed the 1/2 way cut through, it wasn't well marked, so you may want to ask. A great tour from Tony of the property and also enjoyed speaking with Gordon. The only area for improvement we saw was actually the restaurant, which surprised us. The service was just a bit off for both dinners, not as polished as we expected, although friendly. The entrees were good, but the same sides (taking advantage of seasonal ingredients) became repetitive. Meats night two were both overcooked. Great wine list. We would definitely return to try it again once covid is a distant memory.

It was a true pleasure staying and dining at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant for our 6th Anniversary. The food and wine was spectacular, the accommodations were romantic, and the grounds were beautiful, with a pool and hot tub that overlooked a beautiful vista and farm. However, we wish to extend a special acknowledgement to the extraordinary service of the entire hospitality team. They were thoughtful enough to grant us a one night stay with a tasting menu, as a substitute for an additional night, one of the only properties in the entire region that was so accommodating. The staff always had a smile on their face and were gracious to help at every moment of our stay. This has been one of the finest experiences we’ve ever had, and we’ve been to a few places. We look forward to our return visit.

We have stayed at Goodstone at least ten times over several years. We summarized each of our first five-or-so visits as “the final result exceeded the sum of the parts”. Our visits were truly exceptional. But more recent visits have not met what we believe to be the criteria for a five star rating. During our stay a few days ago, a piece of ugly cleaning apparatus was stored at the the pool both days. We were in the Mare Suite and there were many tiny bugs in the tub/ shower. The wonderful young lady that served us at breakfast and dinner was not well versed in her job as representative of the kitchen ( but she was very pleasant, intelligent and conversational). The Adirondack chairs at the fire pit had not been cleaned and were victims of bird residue! The same was true of the croquet set. I could go on. In short, Goodstone simply no longer gets our fifth star. The attention to detail that earns that star is no longer present. Management should either step up its game or adjust their rating and pricing.

I have been to the Goodstone several times. Following are my thoughts:
Rooms are pristine. Beautiful appointments and design. Housekeeping is exceptional and unusually careful to detail. If you go for the casual dinners upstairs, go early - The kitchen runs out of menu items and you don't won't to be disappointed. Drinks come very slowly. The bartender seemed to be focused on those at the bar. Understandable, but... Pouring a glass of wine shouldn't take 30 minutes. Go to a winery, and have your own wine before going to dinner. Breakfasts are good, probably need a few different options. We were there multiple mornings and offered the same choices each morning. So, it was good, but can improve.

Lovely fall weekend that we looked forward to for months. We went overnight for my husband’s birthday. Room in the cottage was cute and quaint. Yet, we could hear every noise from the adjoining room and the baseboard heat banged most of the night. I had stayed in a cottage several years ago, and I was disappointed not to have it stocked with water and pastries as it was on my prior stay. There was one water bottle in the fridge by the time we returned from dinner. No more bottles arrived in the morning.

Most disappointing was dinner in the Conservatory restaurant. Atmosphere is very nice. Yet, the entrees were odd like Cod with marinara and linguine. Service was unpolished with plates taken while we were still eating from them. Final touch of a petit four was thoughtful but the taste was really terrible. Two members in our party spit it out. It is a lovely setting but the attention to detail has fallen off.

I will agree with the previous folks, esp the Happy Hour at the Oyster place. There is a very authentic English Pub in Uppersville, not far, West on the Main Street. If I remember correctly it has Fox in it’s name too.
