Really enjoyed this gritty British drama last night. On the edge of my seat - made me want to hang those bad guys! I had difficulty believing it was drama - felt so real. Didn't like it. It was lit badly, camera work was wobbly and the plot was nonsense. It is just another crime drama following in the wake of other dramas thought to be trendy.

Has potential, but let down by unbelievable sequences. I thought it very unlikely that the Police could'nt spare an officer to guard the house overnight, especially if the victim died it would be a murder site. And of course, finding a gun under the floorboards was very serendipitous. All because a floorboard creaked. I must have quite a lot stashed away under my floor if every creaking floorboard has something under it. Why would one of the attackers return to the scene of the crime so soon when there would be every chance that the house would be under surveillance, as it would probably have been in real life?

I agree 100% with geriatricpete, however, I'll go a step further and confirm that there is absolutely no way that a scene guard wouldn't be in place at the 'squat' or for there to be at least 2 full time officers assigned to protect the scene with complete line of sight cover. This ensures that nobody goes in or out without having their details recorded, which effectively renders this entire piece implausible. I accept that what we have here appears, on the face of it, to be good 'drama', but sensationalising the brutal attack on a police officer and then compounding it with a vigilante police officer intent on revenge adds up to little more than popcorn TV. Certain parts were believable but trust me when I say that after the death of the child in the opening sequence this officer would have spent the rest of his shift filling in paperwork, not having web chats in his patrol car, cups of tea and bacon sarnies!! Nice attempt at tapping into 'the service' but woefully misinformed or lazily researched.

Very gripping new police drama, very explicit in filming but I am really appreciating the police view and the level of crime and the criminals they deal with on a daily business because let's be honest it's a tough job which pshycologically taps into your beliefs and ethical standards. Very real, very real.

Love the new drama line-up but would still love to see a second series of Zen!!!

only decent thing on bbc for a very long time, fantastic script and casting fab too. Warren Brown you are an absolute star, fantastic as were all the cast.Sometimes you wonder what you pay a t.v license for, well if good cop is the only decent drama to come from the beeb this year then for once i can say my t.v license was worth the money just to watch good cop. Please make series 2 xx

I was totally blown away by this beautiful piece of drama. To turn a character into a mass murderer and still have the audience empathise with him rather than his victims is genius. I disagree with comments about the believability of not having a lookout etc - I have no police background and was clueless as to whether this was protocol or not. Also it was explained by one officer who said that there was a staff shortage that night - so that didn't spoil anything for me. Some beautiful cinematography as well. It is dramas like this which totally justify the licence fee. Excellent acting as well, particularly the baddies! Well done BBC, can't wait for the rest. But have to second the request for another series of Zen!!

It is enjoyable but I do find it hard to believe that a police officer who witnesses the brutal murder of their partner would be back on the beat almost immediately, and confronting more violent crimes (suicide jumping from a roof, violent attack on a man in a car etc) before the FUNERAL had taken place. I suspect he/she would be on desk duties and weekly counselling for some weeks and months, even up to the date of the trial when they would obviously be the no1 witness. Was ANY research done as to procedure when an officer is killed in front of colleagues?

I just finished episode 3...I love this show! I was hooked after watching the first episode. Stephen, you write beautifully. The performances are far superior to anything that I have seen on tv lately. I only hope that you are asked to write for a second series.

I had one quick question that was nagging me a bit. In the second episode, Carrie agrees to meet John Paul in a cafe "On the corner of Old Hall Street and Dale Street"

Old Hall Street and Dale Street are actual streets in Liverpool, but are not joined (I think Exchange Square is between them) and the cafe used was on the corner of Castle Street and Lord Street.

So why use real streets but then not use them accurately?

Really curious to know if that's the scriptwriters decision or that of the BBC?

Whichever, this is a tiny little "niggle". I think the series has been fantastic.

Shocking, there is no place for this nonsense especially after yesterday. Why does everything revolve around murder? The BBC should be more responsible.

This has been a popular series. Tonight was the final episode and to my utter disappointment the episode has been pulled with no information about when it will be rescheduled. It is a terrible tragedy, the death of the two police officers in Manchester and whilst my sympathies go out to the family and friends of the two women who died I am struggling to understand why the final episode has been pulled from all media formats. The news has been leading with the stories of the two deaths since it happened, the families reminded repeatedly of the event with every news bulletin. And yet a fictional piece of tv drama is pulled, so as not to cause upset to the same family and friends having to endure the news bulletins. Given it was the final episode it should have been made available on the BBC iplayer to be sought out by those who wanted to watch. When will the BBC learn that adults in the free world can censor for themselves with the power of the on/off button.

This has got to be one of the most powerfully written, produced, directed and acted stories that I have seen for a very long time. It caused great discussions at home. It is without doubt a story ahead of its time - a prophecy. Without question, our thoughts are with two extremely brave policewomen who have lost their lives in a situation similar to this drama. Long live British Drama and the British Forces who protect us in real life!!

One doesn't usually see such a graphic killing scene as the second one in the series and it must be one of the most memorable TV scenes of the year, however I do have a gripe with the BBC powers that be. This superb program was, quite rightly in my opinion, “pulled” from the schedules out of respect for the family and colleagues connected with the murder of the two lady police officers in Manchester but the day after the murders BBC News relegated this story to second place and replaced it with the “Hot News” about a tiff between a cycling MP and a jobsworth police officer outside No 10 Downing Street, despite the fact that an arrest had been made. A lack of consistency?

I truly understand the reason behind postponing it, and would like to add that may the very brave ladies, nicola and fiona rest in peace, words cannot express the grief the world is feeling at the loss of you two beautiful young ladies who was ONLY doing there jobs!!

I agree with Stephanie. The problem with pulling TV series in response to real world events is that it equates reality with fiction. Thus, in the minds of the BBC, Stephen Butchard and Warren Brown are as culpable as real criminals - which is ridiculous. The fact is, it isn't in respect of the families of the victims - it's because of anticipated viewing figures which just makes the act incredibly offensive.

Really enjoyed the whole story, and look forward to seeing it's conclusion at an appropriate time in light of Manchester incident. We think Warren is excellent in the lead role, and is adding to a fine body of work, by bringing a realism to the writer's script. We look forward to seeing Warren and Stephen's future work.

Well it has been a week since the sad events in Manchester . However there has yet to be any information regarding the showing of the final program in the "Good Cop" story.
It is in my opinion one of the best things to come out of the BBC this year, i do hope it can be offered on I Player soon, otherwise i would have almost forgotten what the plot was given the intricate detail of the story line

Good Cop is THE best drama that I have watched in a very long time. I was gripped from the very first episode. I'm undecided how I feel about the ending...I really hope there will be a second series as there's surely still a good story to be told?

Absolutley fantastic, was gripped from the first episode, brillaint story and the actors were great, warren brown is very yummy!!!
The wait for final episode was worth it, didnt expect in a million he would shoot kyle even if it was a mistake then take his phone and run.
The ending has left me wanting more though, what happens to sav? does he get caught or give in?
Please tell me there is going to be another series, it was so gripping.

Totally enjoyed Good Cop, great location, casting was excellent and acting outstanding. I was so looking forward to the delayed screening of the 4th episode and watched it with anticipation last night, couldn't wait to see how all the loose endings tied up. Did Sav get found out ? Does Jonjo get away with his involvement in Andys murder ? Does Sav manage to have any relationship with his daughter ? Does the decorating ever get started in Savs house ?
I couldn't have been more disappointed ! Really gutted that it ended the way it did, left me with more loose ends.
I can only hope the reason for this will be a 2nd series in the future otherwise I feel really cheated out of a dramatic ending.

O.M.G I loved it all my mates around Liverpool also, John Paul an amazing policeman kept me gripping to my seat.and the person who mention is not being real? of course not u dope ....... I think it was a story about how maybe some police think what they would like to do to the criminals because our judical sysytem is crap? Superb tense and gritty drama series, excellent script and acting. The best BBC drama series to be screened in years. Such a shame it had to be broken up by real life events. I hope the BBC will show all four episodes again back to back, as I missed the final episode on TV and had to watch it on my computer, not ideal. Warren Brown is a tremendous find, nice to see new, highly talented British actors on TV. ***** Five Stars !! I wish all channels would stop previewing next episodes at the end of the current one and leave the credits full sized with no one talking over them or previewing other shows. Where is the sense of atmosphere. Have you anything else in the pipeline Mr Butchard ?

Great season 1 but my question is are we all hoping for a season 2 coz they carnt leave it like this. Hoping its a short break befor its back on again.

What was an otherwise mediocre and forgettable cliche ridden police drama consigned itself to the dustbin with its ridiculously contrived non-ending. Was it supposed to be clever and open to interpretation?

This wasn't a clever or ambiguous ending - it would be like a book ending mid-sentence with several blank pages.

Perhaps the saddest thing is that the situation created at the end by the protagonist crossing a moral event horizon was infinitely more entertaining than much of the pseudo-intellectual attempts at moralising.

Generous fellow I am, I'd say 4 out of 10, although the ending alone would justify it getting a 3 or perhaps even a 2.5...

To Prophet Tenebrae: Who cares what score YOU gave for the ending? How was it a 'non-ending'? The ending kept the viewer thinking about what would/could happen next and left it open for a possible second series - not, as you describe, 'like a book ending mid-sentence with several blank pages'. Not all stories have to have neat, spelled out finishes for people with no imaginations. I, hope there is a second series and hope it isn't too long before it's commissioned.

Well I've just registered for a BBC id specifically to comment on this series. What an excellent programme, very dramatic with a wonderfully dark, brooding, thoughtful way of capturing the unfolding drama. I was constantly on the edge of my seat, at times physically shaking with the excitement and nervousness about what was going to happen. I particularly loved the ambigous nature of Sav's character - are we supposed to sympathise with him, pity him or be scared of him? I'm not sure if he's ultimately a good guy or bad guy. I thought the father figure added a great extra layer of depth to Sav, as well as the nurse prostitute.
Also, the guy who played Noel the low life was extraordinary. He genuinely stole episode 1 and was fabulously diabolical. All in all a brilliant series and I really hope it can be continued.

One thing niggles. I must have missed why Sav went back to retrieve the gun from Jonjo's girl friend's house. I thought he planted it to have him arrested.

Good Cop was one of the most exciting dramas I have seen in a long while. Pity it was interrupted but of course the reasons were totally appropriate. Some of the more ardent fans were slightly disappointed with the outcome. I feel however that a Good Cop 2 could dispel these frustrations. Heres hoping. Really if you are going to start something like this then you really need to finish it properly xxx

I was absolutely captivated by episodes 1-3. The characterisation of Sav responding to the situations he faced was quite gripping. I thought that Warren Brown was good but somewhat wooden in the role and would improve his skills no end by spending more time with Michael Angelis who is a top class actor. The supporting cast and technical presentation was excellent.

The concluding episode was such an anti-climax! The main thread of the story became jumbled and was then lost completely – why on earth would Sav risk going back to retrieve the gun when he had his man trapped and surely facing a lengthy prison sentence? Wouldn’t an anonymous tip off have led to the police raid that seemed to be staged for dramatic affect around the central character and for no other reason?

As for the protection provided for Amanda…come on. Only one vehicle left in pursuit when the other is predictably diverted to another incident? I assume the Merseyside Police motorcycle division bikes were all in the garage for servicing.

The final episode was like watching a one-off episode. More Death Wish than Shawshank. I thought the real problem was that the two most interesting baddies were killed off far too early. The series would have benefitted from more insight into their depravity – that would have added to the entertainment. In the end Sav was a sap.

Had to come online to find out more about Good Cop and what the future holds for it. Good Cop - wow totally gripping, edge of seat drama, what a fantastic series, couldn't wait for the next episode to air so we could watch it. The mix of emotions stirred up with each episodes from feeling an adrenaline rush, to feeling anxious to physically tensed up, to excited about what to expect next. HAve to say with so much rubbish aired on TV these days I've personally waited a long time to watch such a high callibre drama series. The last episode was delayed being aired due to the programme being rescheduled in light of the Manchester Police Killings (completely understandable).

How disappointing it was when it all ended, surely there must be more to come?? I truly do hope so, so many unfinished stories beginning to unfold, and so many loose strings left untied. My Husband and I absolutley loved watching this together, it made fantastic viewing, and created several discussions at work too!

Well done, seriously Congratulations to all who worked on this, the cast were fantastic, especially loved was Sav (Warren Brown is such a fantastic actor) and his Dad (Michael Angelis who's familiar voice was recognised from narrating Thomas the Tank Engine whom my son loves watching), those were the main characters on whom the story was based upon and I would love to see more of them if Good Cop 2 was broadcast. Please BBC and Stephen Butchard don't let us all down!! Here's hoping eh???

Loved the series but feel it lost it's way at the end - why did Sav suddenly change tack and start killing other offenders (and his informer) whilst the guy who was involved in his police colleagues murder was still unfinished business and the walking into the sea - what was that about? I guess as long as there is a series 2, all this can be resolved......................

Great series.

Just watched episode 4 on iPlayer - I got a bit lost due to the re-scheduling. What a terrific drama - so much apart from the usual police shows we see. Great writing, and the actors were outstanding; particularly Warren Brown of course. His out-of-control calmness was brilliant; right up until the last shot (of both varieties!).

We have to have a second series though; if nothing else to find out of his poor old dad cottons-on.

Excellent series- deserves much praise and more episodes surely a must. This is what I pay my license fee for. Superb drama.

Any mini drama that gets me to come back for the last episode says a huge amount. Whilst in this case the ending was not written in stone, I did what some very good storytellers' make you do, lead you to your own conclusion.

If it's done well,from a viewer's perspective, it makes you want more of the same, done badly and you almost instantly write the whole thing off.
