The Dutch Guilder was the currency of the Netherlands from the 1600’s until 2002, when it was replaced by the euro. The word ‘guilders’ translates literally to gold in Dutch and have always been minted in the Netherlands. The coins typically feature a portrait of a monarch and the coat of arms.
