GMA Network Unveils Line-Up of Programs For 2022

Philippine broadcast giant GMA Network recently unveiled its line-up of new programs for 2022. In a teaser released on the first day of the year, GMA shared a sneak peek to dramas and variety programs viewers can look forward to in the new year. This includes dramas lined up for the afternoon and primetime blocks, featuring the Network’s biggest artists.

GMA’s first new program for the year is Alternate the latest installment of the hit drama anthology, I Can See You. It stars GMA Primetime King Dingdong Dantes (Descendants of the Sun) portraying dual roles in the miniseries that premiered on January 10. It tells the story of a man whose life turns upside down when he meets his long-lost twin brother, and asks him to pretend to be him.

First Lady, the most-awaited sequel to the hit TV series The First Nanny is also set to premiere on GMA’s primetime block. Reprising their roles are Gabby Concepcion (Love You Two) as Philippine President Glenn Acosta, and Sanya Lopez (For Love or Money)  as First Lady Melody Acosta. Set after the events of First Nanny, the series will focus on the life of Melody as First Lady to the President, and mother to his children, and the struggles they will face as the nation’s first family.

Another exciting primetime series is False Positive headlined by Xian Lim in his first project with GMA, and versatile actress Glaiza De Castro (Flames of Love). It tells the story of a neglected wife who makes a wish on a magical fountain for her husband to understand the suffering she is going through her pregnancy.  A magical switch happens and the husband becomes the bearer of the unborn child.

Sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats is Widows’ Web, a murder-mystery series about three women who could all possibly have a hand in the murder of a man whom they are all connected with. In their attempt to unravel the truth, how far would they go to prove their innocence? The series is top-billed by Pauline Mendoza (All or Nothing), Ashley Ortega (Legal Wives), Vaness Del Moral (Beautiful Strangers), and veteran actress Carmina Villarroel (The End of Us).

GMA is also set to premiere the action-adventure series, Lolong, inspired by the world’s largest crocodile in captivity of the same name.  It stars Ruru Madrid (Sherlock Jr.), Arra San Agustin (A Place in Your Heart)  and Shaira Diaz (I Can See You Season 2). The series will also feature “Dakila”, a crocodile made of fiberglass body and silicone skin, manned by 14 people and utilizes pneumatic technology and computer-generated imagery (CGI).

GMA also released a new featurette of the highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of the hit Japanese anime series Voltes V: Legacy showing the elaborate set and animation of the series. The groundbreaking project stars Miguel Tanfelix (Heart and Soul)Ysabel Ortega (The Gift), Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, Raphael Landicho (The Silent Thief).

GMA also teased about primetime dramas lined up for the rest of 2022 including:

Love You Stranger – romance-mystery mini-series about two strangers who must work together to uncover the mysteries surrounding a folklore.

Bolera – the story of a smart, pool-hustling girl from the slums who fights her way to get a shot in becoming a pool champion in the male-dominated world of billiards.

The Witness – the story of a man with Asperger’s syndrome who witnesses the murder of a loved one, and his quest for justice using his uncanny abilities.

The Bread House – a drama about a family torn between continuing the family tradition through their bakeshop, or turning it into a modern facility.

Love Before Sunrise – the story of two ex-lovers who rekindle their feelings at a time when the two are already married.

What a Joy – a tale of a woman forced by her mother to assume a different identity to improve their lives, but ends up in a complicated love triangle with two brothers.

Sang’gre – a new chapter in GMA’s original and groundbreaking fantasy series, Encantadia. It features a young woman’s discovery of her magical powers, unaware that she is the descendant of the powerful Sang’gres of Encantadia.

Recently making its premiere on GMA’s afternoon block is family drama, Little Princess. The series is headlined by Jo Berry (The Way to Your Heart), Rodjun Cruz (My Crown Princess), and Juancho Trivino (Happy Together). It follows the story of a little person who takes on the challenge of leading a business and proving her worth in the corporate world.

GMA’s phenomenal afternoon drama, Prima Donnas returns for a second season on January 17. Reprising their roles as the three Donnas are Jillian Ward, Althea Ablan, Sofia Pablo. Now as heiresses to their father’s wealth, the sisters will face new challenges and old enemies who are out to destroy them.

Another much-anticipated series is the riveting legal drama series Artikulo 247 set to premiere on February 14. Top-billed by Rhian Ramos (Love of My Life), Benjamin Alves (Owe My Love), Kris Bernal (Impostora), and Mark Herras (Ysabel), the series will follow the journey of a woman who struggles to move on from the consequences of her past entanglement with her boss and his wife.

Other upcoming shows to look forward to on GMA’s Afternoon Prime include:

The Fake Life – the story of a man who thought he had the perfect life, but finds out that everything in his life is a lie, including being a father to his children.

Raising Mamay – a tale of a young woman forced to take care of her scornful mother stricken with brain regression.

Heaven on Fire (Apoy Sa Langit) – an advocacy-driven series that showcases an unusual story of betrayal involving money and family affairs.

Reach for the Stars (Abot Kamay Na Pangarap) the story of an impoverished but smart girl who will face the toughest of tests as she strives to reach for her dreams.

Frozen Love – the story of a budding figure skater whose dreams will be crushed by a bitter rival on and off the skating rink.

Return to Paradise – the story of two strangers who find love while marooned on an island, the challenges they will face upon their return to the real world.

Underage – a television re-telling of a Philippine movie classic about three provincial lasses whose lives are turned upside down when they move to the city.

Heaven In My Heart – a heartwarming series about two strangers who forms a bond as mother and child, even if they’re not related by blood.

Prisoner of Love (Nakarehas Na Puso) – a tale about an ex-convict mother who returns to her family using a different identity in hopes of mending their broken lives.

GMA’s top-rating fantasy anthology The Eagle’s Quest returns for a second season, with a more intense and action-packed story. It is headlined by Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla, Jr., featuring Sanya Lopez and Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Rabiya Mateo.

A new breed of talented artists who can make beautiful music together are also set to be discovered in the innovative reality singing contest Sing For Hearts.

The Network also announced news program offerings on its second free-to-air channel, GTV.

Be inspired to spread kindness in the primetime series Sweet Sixteen, about a spoiled brat who must learn to be kind in ninety days to break a curse put on her.

Miniseries Heart of an Angel will showcase a man’s encounter with angels that walk and live amongst us.

Finally, food becomes more exciting in the adventure reality cooking show One Knife Only. The show will feature exciting cooking adventures, and delectable dishes for which Filipinos are known for.
