Philippines logs 2,227 new COVID-19 infections; active cases at 21,101


The Department of Health on Sunday reported 2,227 new cases of COVID-19, raising the Philippines' total case count to 2,826,410.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country's active case count to 21,101, of which 56.9% are mild, 4.4% are asymptomatic, 13% are severe, and 5.5% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,758,235 after 3,152 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The number of deaths breached the 47,000-mark with 175 new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 47,074.

The DOH noted that 125 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 191 cases found to have tested negative have been removed.

Meanwhile, 147 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said two laboratories were not operational on November 19, while two more laboratories were not able to submit their data on time.

Data from the DOH also showed that 31% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 18% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 31% of the ICU beds are in use, while 20% of the ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
