£5m ace admits he had no idea if he'd leave Rangers and was in the dark

Glen Kamara admits he was in the dark over his Rangers future throughout much of the summer before the midfielder eventually sealed a £5 million move to Leeds United.

After a window of much uncertainty and more gossip than the showbiz section of a daily tabloid, Glen Kamara finally brought an end to his time at Ibrox in the final week of August.

Leeds United completed a £5 million deal for the Finland international, bringing Kamara south of the border again and drawing a line under months of uncertainty surrounding his future at Ibrox, the one-time Arsenal prospect falling out of favour in Rangers blue.

Rangers sold Glen Kamara to Leeds United

“You know what, there were so many links and people were sending me ‘are you going here’ or ‘have you left’? I remember there was one day, I think I was watching an interview with my mum and my girlfriend and there were messages popping up on my phone saying; ‘are you done?’ and ‘good luck’,” Kamara tells the Official Leeds United podcast

“’Huh?!’. I rang my agent and asked what’s going on. And he was like; ‘err, wait, hold on, let me find out because I don’t know anything either’. I was like oh, okay, this is not true. It said fee agreed and stuff like that, and this was really early in the window.

“I think maybe from a lot of links as well, the technical director here (at Leeds) contacted my agent and from there, it kicked off.”

Kamara has enjoyed a superb start to life at Leeds. One of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheet already, the 28-year-old is the man who makes the Championship promotion chasers tick, keeping the ball moving and providing a sheet of steel in front of a previously vulnerable backline.

Leeds have won the last five league games in which Kamara has started.

“People were messaging me, I had someone from Sky message me saying; ‘all the best, sad to see you go’. I was like what is going on?,” he adds. “Maybe there might be a little bit of truth because this many people had messaged me, but at the time there was zero truth.

“You can’t believe everything you read.”
