Guy Mitchell also covered "Smokey Blue Eyes" on his Starday album, c. 1969, SINGIN' UP A STORM, SLP 432. First released version of the song was on David Houston's A LOSER'S CATHEDRAL, on Epic 24303/26303 album in 1967. GC's album dates release about May, 1969. The songs were overdub add-a-track "stereo" demos recorded for Johnny Horton's brother probably in 1962. GC sued Starday to stop the release of the albums (see also SLP 437, COUNTRY MUSIC STAR No. 1), and Starday settled after selling 27,000 copies of the two albums, at 35-cents royalties per Lp (it works out to 7% of factory list price per Lp) plus $12,000 in court costs.

I had a manufacturing mistake on this album with a cover having the SLP 426 slick/liner notes for Snookey Lanson's album. Not that anyone would care....

"Something to Remember" pops into my head occasionally. I really enjoyed that song -- thought his voice on that one sounded a little Elvis-ish. I'd love to get hold of that album again; it has several lovely rare tracks.
