In a statement released on Saturday, Loews Hotels said that they would not host an upcoming fundraiser with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo). Fighting for Missouri, a conservative political action committee, had planned to host the event which was billed as a “fun-filled, family-friendly Orlando weekend event” at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orland, Fl over a mid-February weekend. Tickets cost anywhere between $1,000 - $5,000 depending on family size.

In their statement, Loews cited the deadly riot at the capitol as the main reason for pulling their support. “We are horrified and opposed to the events at the Capitol and all who supported and incited the actions,” the company said on Twitter. “In light of those events and for the safety of our guests and team members, we have informed the host of the Feb. fund-raiser that it will no longer be held at Loews Hotels.”

Loew’s decision to back out of hosting the fundraiser is the latest example of corporations seeking to distance themselves from Republican politicians who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Earlier this month Simon & Schuster canceled plans to publish Sen. Hawley’s book “The Tyranny of Big Tech” which was supposed to be published in June. At the time, Simon & Schuster said they “cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat.”

Sen. Hawley described Simon & Schuster’s decision as “Orwellian” and attributed it to “cancel culture.” He took a similar tone in his reaction to Loew’s decision. “If these corporations don’t want conservatives to speak, they should just be honest about it,” said Sen. Hawley in a statement. “But to equate leading a debate on the floor of the Senate with inciting violence is a lie, and it’s dangerous. I will not be deterred from representing my constituents, and I will not bow to left-wing corporate pressure.”
