Sophie Sanders, also known as the Girl in the Box, was presumed murdered 20 years ago by Martin Whitly. Sophie used to work for Nicholas Endicott before she disappeared. [1]

Season 1[]

  • She visited Malcolm Bright in his nightmares. [4]
  • Jessica apologized for the trauma she had caused her son by telling him he had made up the story about the women he thought he saw in the box. She offered him her full and unconditional support. Later, while in Gil's office, Jessica brought up the guilt she was feeling from finding out the woman in the box was real. They were interrupted, and Gil stepped out. Jessica began looking through some of his notes and, after remembering that they had found the girl's bracelet, took a detailed photo of it. That night she offered a one million dollar reward for anyone with valuable information about the Girl in the Box. [5]
  • Jessica had assembled a team to help her find information about the Woman in the Box with the bracelet. Gil continuously and commonly requested she send everyone home, to which she eventually did, as he had bad news to shared with her about her son. [6]
  • The Whitly Family were celebrating over breakfast, after which Jessica explained she was meeting someone with potential information about the Woman in the Box. Malcolm insisted on accompanying her to the park. [7]
  • Martin Whitly was having a hallucination about the first time he met the Woman in the Box. She had sprained her ankle at a park, and he had offered his help as a doctor, offering her to use his home phone nearby to call someone to pick her up. She accepted and followed him home, but before she was able to pick up the phone, he blindsided her from behind, knocking her out. However, he was interrupted in dealing with her further with the sudden arrival of his wife. Later, after presumably dismembering her body, he discovered that the box he had put her in was empty. Mentally, he was immediately brought back to his living room to the time at which his would-be victim was on the phone, only now she was able to call to her mother. Afterwards, she threatened Martin and held young Malcolm at knife-point. After his initial panic, Martin was able to calm himself and retake control of the situation, ultimately killing her, even if only in his mind. [8]
  • It was discovered that Martin Whitly didn't kill her. Instead, he spared her life after she told him a few secrets about Nicholas Endicott, whom she considers to be a far bigger monster than Martin. [10]
  • Sophie's sister Eve was murdered by an assassin called 'Eddie,' who was hired by Nicholas Endicott. [1]

Malcolm finally finds Sophie, who now works as a veterinarian under an alias, and learned that after she and Eve were reunited, she killed the assassin who murdered her sister. Malcolm then left, but not before apologizing for what he and his father had done to her.[11]
