Frequently asked questions

  • Got a network issue?

Maybe your phone’s going at a snail’s pace, or calls keep dropping. Whatever the problem is you can check our status checker to see if there’s an issue in your area.

If there is, head over to our friendly community for the latest updates while we work to fix it. If not, you can rule out a simple device or SIM issue in a few easy steps.

    1. Turn your phone off and on again.
    2. Toggle your flight mode on and off.
    3. Choose the giffgaff network manually in your phone settings.
    4. Reset your network settings. This will also reset WiFi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.
    5. Try your SIM in a different phone. If this works, your phone might be the problem. Ask an agent for more help.
    6. Try a different SIM in your phone. If it works, your SIM might be faulty and you can swap your SIM.

  • 5G excitement explained
Whether you’re a gamer, movie fanatic, or simply need to be connected and fast, 5G offers something for everyone. Lightning speed downloads, top quality video calling on the go and uploading big files out and about. All that plus a more reliable connection, even when you’re surrounded by thousands of people (at Glastonbury for example). Lag-free too. Marvellous.
  • 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and other jargon
    2G:
Simply put, 2G allows you to send text messages.

    3G:
Offers voice calls and text messaging, as well as faster access to the internet.

    3.5G:
As you’ve probably guessed, provides faster data rates than 3G.

    4G:
Faster downloads, quicker browsing and less time buffering videos. If you have a 4G ready phone, but you’re not in a 4G area, you’ll still be able to use 3G.

    5G:
5G gives our members a more reliable connection in extra busy places, delay-free downloads and buffer-free streaming. Magic.
