Bill Nighy and Miranda Richardson star in a story of grief and celebrity, set in the intense spring and summer of New Labour's election victory and Diana's death. Nighy is a PR guru who has to stop and re-evaluate his world when his daughter threatens to leave his life, perhaps as revenge for his serial infidelities. Richardson plays a mother trying to bury her grief in an unconventional way after the loss of her young son.

wow, this was just... wow. it's not a good visual movie, i didn't like the narrator plot but gideon and natasha's storyline was just beautiful. it's so easy to blame the parents for all the traumas and all of our flaws.…
I was hoping this would be a hidden gem but it was just...hidden. Props to the casting department for getting 392 Letterboxd users to watch it. The story was a bunch of meandering nothingness with an overbearing narrator and orchestral score to give the illusion of importance. I guess Gideon's Daughter is noteworthy for having Tom Hardy's most normal role of his entire career though.
So, Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt were actually awarded Golden Globes for their performances in this BBC TV film. Despite its stellar cast – which also includes Miranda Richardson, Tom Hardy and Robert Lindsay – I found this film to be a rather underwhelming viewing experience. The instrumental score was just horrible, and did a disservice to an already mediocre film.
