Who Is Jessica Chastain's Husband, Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo?

He met Chastain on the same day she earned an Oscar nod.

As The Eyes of Tammy Faye actress explained on LIVE With Kelly and Ryan, she met her spouse in Paris on a very memorable day. "The day that Gian Luca and I met was the day that I got nominated for an Oscar," she said in reference to her 2011 nod for The Help. "It’s like, probably the best day I ever had," she gushed.

He grew up in Italy.

Passi de Preposulo grew up in Carbonera, Italy, roughly 20 minutes from Venice, before moving to Milan at age 19 to pursue his work in fashion. "I grew up with a really big family around me," he said of his kin, who owns the magnificent Villa Tiepolo Passi where he and Chastain tied the knot in January 2017.

He's a count...sort of.

Though the Italian aristocracy was officially dissolved in 1946, making the title of "count" null and void, Passi de Preposulo would have been one: His father is known as Count Alberto Passi de Preposulo, and the family’s nobility reportedly dates back to 973. "My husband's a count," his wife confirmed to LIVE With Kelly and Ryan in 2017.

Not that the technicalities matter to Passi de Preposulo. After all, as he told Vanity Fair in 2009, "It’s not the title that’s important—you have to be a count inside yourself."

He changed Chastain’s mind about marriage.

According to Chastain, she wasn’t exactly the type to grow up dreaming of a white wedding. In fact, prior to meeting Passi de Preposulo, the thought of tying the knot seemed...less than appealing. "He knew that marriage wasn’t something I was interested in," she explained to The Wall Street Journal in 2018. "And then as we got to know each other, the idea of marriage shifted for me. There are some things worth celebrating—and he’s worth celebrating."

He owns his own brand of prosecco.

The fashion guru started his own prosecco business called Fiol with two of his childhood pals back in 2010—and it's a drink that’s very close to his heart. As he explained to Business Insider in 2018, one might even say it’s in his blood. "We grew up surrounded by prosecco," Passi de Preposulo told the outlet. "The harvest was a very specific time of year for us...Every year, we would do the harvest with our parents and grandparents, and at the end, there was a big celebratory lunch and dinner with all of our family and friends—that was where I had my first prosecco tasting."

He’s a high-powered fashion executive.

Currently, the Italian native works for luxury brand Moncler, where he reportedly handles outerwear and sportswear. Prior to his current role, however, he helmed public relations for Armani. In fact, the businessman once cited Roberta Armani, Giorgio Armani’s niece, as his mentor.

He’s a father.

Though the couple has remained extremely tight-lipped about their children, Chastain did give us a glimpse of the pair’s daughter, Giuletta, whom they reportedly welcomed via surrogate, in 2018. "You’ve got good taste, kid," she joked of a photo of a baby’s hand reaching for a large piece of bling. Two years later, the couple was spotted with a second little one in a baby carrier, suggesting that they had doubled their brood.

He’s into extreme sports.

Passi de Preposulo isn’t afraid to get rugged: a fact he single-handedly proved with this photo of himself enduring what appeared to be some extreme weather while seemingly climbing K2 (a.k.a. the second-highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest). "Proud of an amazing climbers team," he captioned a shot of himself with his beard covered in snow and ice.

He’s a Scorpio.

With a birthday of November 10 (a little tidbit Chastain revealed on her Instagram), the Italian noble falls squarely under the Scorpio sign.

He's an animal lover.

Whether he's cuddling lion cubs, stroking elephants or riding horses, Passi de Preposulo appears to have a major soft spot for animals.
