When Travis, middle-aged, working class man, returns home to visit his parents, he quickly learns that his hood is rife with criminal activity and gang warfare. Quickly, Travis finds himself thrust into a position to defend his family and neighbors from the punks who terrorize them on a daily basis. Good thing he has a military training, enabling the man to become a one-man vigilante unit against the forces of evil in his town.

This is the type of movie I loved growing up as a kid in the 80’s. This is a lot of fun. It's only 82 minutes long and doesn't stop to get boring at any point. The ending is suitably bad-action with abandoned warehouse explosions, car explosions, uzi gunfights and a cheesy drawn-out death sequence. The Hammers have taken over, and use their power to murder innocent people, rape women, and steal boomboxes from unsuspecting children. After they go after his family, Travis looks to take them all out. Ghetto Blaster wouldn’t be as good if wasn't just so 80s. Richard Hatch isn't overly impressive as an action star, but he's likeable enough. If you like vigilante movies, definitely give this one a watch.
Over-the-top vigilante action, but with painfully predictable dialogue and funky fresh beats
Beginning with a title card comparing LA gangs to medieval kingdoms of olde, then a credit sequence of local news footage where Latino homies wearing flannel and headbands taunt the camera, all over phat beats and an old-school rap theme song with sick rhymes like "Ghetto Blasta/a brother hastah...,"I knew my only duty was to kick back and enjoy myself. I'll take this over condescending pap like Dangerous Minds and Freedom Writers any day because at least it's more honest; here, the ennobled white person saves the ghetto through sheer desperation and willingness to shoot at and blow up anything that moves, which I can respect more than a smug and superior attitude about education. Just my two cents, but maybe if white folks had the stones to actually walk into a dangerous neighborhood now and then instead of continually finger-scolding from afar then we wouldn't be in the situation we're currently in.
One of the best discoveries of the year so far. It's like a late-80's version of The Exterminator or Death Wish 3 but even more cheap and dirty, if that's possible. It's about an ex-military guy coming home to find his neighbourhood has been taken over by a gang called The Hammers, and he just immediately goes to war with them. It's only 80 minutes long and there seems to be a vicious ass-kicking every 5 minutes. Lean, mean and incredibly fun. Highly recommended. It's on YouTube.
it's basically Death Wish 3 from the director of Action USA and every bit as problematic and ridiculous as that sounds - the newscaster who finishes the film claiming the gangs are gone also sounds far too much like Trump
Everyone should have a friend like my friend Lou with whom they can reliably watch things like this with cause I would've prob never watched this on my own, but I had fun even tho this is absolutely one of the dumbest (possibly brain dead) versions of those movies where "Guy moves back to his old neighborhood and tries to clean the streets of the gang members that now run it and terrify everyone who lives there." However there are two (not just one-but TWO separate) bust a gut laughing, fall down funny scenes in this that somehow raise this from a one star movie to a two star one.

Probably because of how downright racist and xenophobic these movies are. Ghetto Blaster though, gets along on sheer determination; most every scene has something ridiculous going down, be it the main character dressing up as a clown and pretending his balloons are gas-bombs, or placing a razor-blade ridden mouse-trap in a drop spot where gang members reach to great effect.
Definitely not one that you'll toss on and become bored with, as around every turn there's craziness - definitely recommended for low-grade trash aficionados.

Do you need some painfully 80s gang war action that has one of the hippest soundtracks that’ll blow your mind so hard you’ll start dancing and stop paying attention to the movie? Like montages? Graffiti?! Try this! But make sure you stop and pay attention for the wild drug thieving clown scene because it is absolutely hilarious.

Now this is more like it.
Although a bit too heavy on the slap bass on the soundtrack, thus making me constantly wonder when Newman was going to make an appearance, Ghetto Blaster wears its stupidity on its sleeve and ensures that you're never bored for one second.
Starting with a couple of brutal murders, a pretty good car chase, and then some more murders, it disposes of RG Armstrong pretty quickly and gets down to some good old-fashioned vigilantism.
