The location is excellent with views of the fjord and easy access to the waterfall hike nearby. The buffet for dinner and breakfast were both quite good with a variety of options for dinner during our three nights there. The hotel and restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is nice enough but a bit dated. My only real complaint is that our room was uncomfortably hot throughout the night during June weather that wasn't exceptionally warm. Electric vehicle charging is available for 350 NOK. Laundry is available, but there's only one washer and dryer so it's often unavailable.

The location of the hotel is perfect- high enough up the hill that the cruise crowds thin out, but walking distance to shops, boating and restaurants. This is a small town. The fact that such a large hotel exists here is rather impressive. They are clearly slowly making upgrades. We had a more updated room while our kids were in an older section. However, even in our room they need to get rid of the curtains and update the accent chairs. There were no USB plugs either. The lobby is expansive, many couches are outdated but there are newer ones as well. The hot tub, pool and sauna were invaluable on a rainy day. The breakfast buffet is plentiful, but the dinner buffet took top prize with its amazing desserts alone. A la carte food is quite expensive here, we had the priciest restaurant ice cream we’ve ever bought! We found the car museum to be fascinating. We also played cards on the 2nd floor in the seating area outside the conference rooms. It was a great find. In all, I’d stay here again. You do feel part of the grand history of the hotel, it’s just not necessarily a luxurious stay.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night in May 2022 as part of our tour package. It has a view to die for. We had a lake facing view. We slept to the sound of the waterfall and wake up to the sun gleaming the surface of the snow capped mountain. It was simply wonderful and refreshing.
Check in was fast although the lift is rather small. Most European hotels have small capacity lifts so try not to bring too big a luggage on your trip. The room is clean with all the basic amenities provided - hair dryer, shampoo, bath gel etc. Need to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste. Bed is comfortable and the quilt cover is thick and cosy.
The restaurant offers a good and delicious buffet spread. Bread and butter are lovely too. More importantly, you will be looking at a scenic mountain & lake view as you dine. Wish I could stay there a little longer.
We had some cocktails at the bar after dinner until about 12 midnight. The bartender was chatty and engaged us in a conversation. The ambience was relaxing.
We even went for a walk down to the lake after dinner. It's about 3.6km but you will need to climb down several flights of stairs and up again. However, it's well worth the effort as you will be walking close to the falls and arrived at the tranquility of the lake. The air is so fresh and cool in Spring that you do not tire even after scaling the flight of stairs.
Given another opportunity, I will visit this hotel again and try their spa.

We stayed at Geiranger Hotel Union in early June 2022 and had a wonderful 3 nights.

The room was relatively basic, but clean and very comfortable. The only improvement I would have made would have been the addition of aircon as it was quite warm when we stayed.

We loved that the hotel used Molten Brown products in their bathrooms and spa.

The spa itself was fabulous. We only used the pool and rooftop terrace and jacuzzi which was included in the room price. It was always empty when we visited which was lovely. It overlooked the fjord and made for a beautiful place to watch the sunset!

We ate at the restaurant one evening and both had delicious meals. Breakfast was included with the room and had a very good selection of foods.

The car collection in the hotel basement is well worth a visit if you enjoy classic cars at all.

Arrived at Hotel Union on top of the hill above town. Great view down on the town and cruise port. Room 233 was on the port side with a nice view. The room was good size with twin beds. Nice desk with a table lamp and one outlet. Had to plug in additional electronic equipment by the bed. One luggage rack so used couch for second bag. Did have in-room safe. Wall mounted dispensers for body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Tub/shower combination not good for older guests. Our tour group had buffet dinner in the evening. It had one of the
best selections of food I have seen in a long time. They even had snow crab legs and they were yummy. There must have been more than a dozen scrumptious desserts if you were still hungry after dinner. Also provided with buffet breakfast which was also well supplied and very good. Bed was too soft.

I would say to avoid this place, completely overpriced but you are boxed in as your options in this area are quite limited. All the buses outside clearly indicate to stay away. I was traveling by motorcycle and asked for a room which they provided. No view whatsoever except for the ventilation systems in the rear of the hotel. I called about the black mold and leak at around 10:30 PM and they offered me a new room which I declined due to just about to go to bed and having my stuff all unpacked. I spoke to the manager in the morning who was perplexed as to why I didn't change rooms and offered me half price for the room, This is the thing with Norway, they do not understand customer service. I offered to show the manger that bed was worn out and bowing in the middle, the light fixture too low that I hit my head on and the leak and black mold in the bathroom (see photos). He still wanted me to pay half prie for the room and refused to go see the room! This place was horrible.

This is a large hotel suited to tour companies. It has a prime position and adds a bit of luxury to one of the most beautiful spots in Norway. It is an old-world charm hotel and rooms are such they are large and offer all the basic necessities you need for your stay. Bathrooms are basic no shower caps and towels rather thin. You also have to pay a deposit for a fan in your room as there is no air co. Housekeeping was basic and there is a coffee machine in the room. This hotel lacks in some things and makes up in others. It has the most wonderful buffet if you are with a tour group. It also has a spa sauna and swimming pool free to guests There is also a spa with massage and therapeutic baths for a fee. The views from the lounges are so relaxing just a wonderful spot. The only negative they allow all the people from the large tour ships into the lounges.

..........................................................................
On June 12, 2022, we were a party of four people eating at Restaurant Julie at Hotel Union in Geiranger. And the food we were served was a huge disappointment.

Hotel Union advertises being a proud member of the Historic Hotels and Restaurants. Based on this, the hotel charges well - also for the food they serve.

The price of the meal is neither in proportion to the quality of the food, nor that Hotel Union is a member of the Historic Hotels and Restaurants.

Awesome views of the waterfall and fjord from some rooms is the highlight of the hotel. The dining experience at buffet breakfast and dinner is very good. Service is A grade. Room size is average and the temperature in the room was uncontrollably warm. The bathroom is smallish with lack of amenities like conditioner or lotion. The shower makes the entire bathroom wet as the stall is not attached at the top of the tub. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Overall a pleasant stay.

This hotel is absolutely worth a recommendation, it’s very historic and authentic and has a great location. The staff seams very professional and they’re very helpful. We had our dinner in the brassiere, with a fantastic view. It was delightful and tasty, and I must say the same about the breakfast. Everything looks nice and clean on the hotel. They also have a nice spa, but unfortunately I didn’t tried it out. Remember to visit the veteran car garage hidden in the basement.

Hotel has hairdryers available in rooms. Unsure about tea and coffee , would probably say no. Laundry and dryers available in hotel at a small fee. Have coin on hand or get from desk.

I have to add, you can always sleep at hotell västerås for the privacy, the calm, piece and quite. Have them to arrange for an evening just for you in their restaurant whith either request a catering or ask for what you want, have them decorate the tables with fresh flowers, live music etc. The wedding cermony could be on one of the spots overlooking the fjords ca 1-2 km from the cabin flat path along mountain. usually no one there.. Have Union hotell arrange a dinner at the hotel, with a big bus-taxi prices would be ok anyway to get everyone down to the center.
