any pyromacer tips for a DS newcomer?
I'm completely new to the DS franchise and decided to pick up DS3 and went with pyromancer, any tips & tricks to play that class? Just got a cell key and accepted a quest from a thief if thats of any use in regards to my progression.
Thanks!
Just started a pyro myself last night. Some of the most basic tips that come to mind. The pyro flame (starting spell catalyst) scales with int / faith, so leveling those skills will increase its damage.
Health and stamina are needed as well. Other than that, attunement, so you can get more spellcasts.
Once you feel you have sufficient HP and essential stats, you can level whatever your weapon of choice scales with.
Investing in your weapons scaling skills will increase your damage the same way it did with the pyro flame. When you look at a weapon in your inventory it will have skills with corresponding letters, that is it’s scaling rating. S is the best, then A, B, and so on. Weapon choice is up to you.
There is a pyro teacher early on in the game, in the Undead Settlement, right near the Cliff Underside bonfire, a ways into the area. Talk to him and accept his offer, he will move to Firelink, sell you pyromancies AND upgrade your pyro hand like the blacksmith does your weapons.
This is super basic and by no means exhaustive, hope it helps, feel free to message or comment back if you need help.
Good luck!
Thank you so much, this is really usefull information! I'll definitly look for the pyro teacher right away :)
Pyro isnt great until u get that curved sword
I recently started my first pyro run too, coming in as a series (but not DS3) veteran. I'm pretty early in the game as well and it's super fun! Much more playable than pyromancy was in previous games so I'd say you chose a good one.
One thing I'd recommend, to help focus on improving your pyromancy without wasting too many stat points early on on weapons: find a weapon you like, then just level your Strength and Dexterity stats to the minimum requirements to wield it. Then do a Raw infusion at the Andre, the blacksmith in Firelink shrine. This will remove weapon scaling (making the weapon more powerful as you level up Str/Dex) but boost its base damage, based solely on the weapon level. For instance, I'm rocking a Raw Broadsword +4 with just 10/10 Str/Dex, and it hits super hard where I'm at (just a tiny bit further than you are, still pretty early game). That gives me more room to focus stat upgrades on Faith/Int/Attunement for pyromancy, as well as Vigor for HP, with a bit of Vitality and Endurance for equip load and stamina. Later on, you'll want to move away from Raw, but early game it's awesome.
As far as weapons go, if you've found something you like, cool! Stick with it and don't worry too much about what's "ideal"—pretty much all the weapons are great if you upgrade them. The most important thing is finding a moveset that you like and learning it well. The starting axe is solid, the mace you can buy early on is super solid, or if you pick up a Longsword or Broadsword, those can slay with a Raw stone. Other awesome weapons that you can grab early are the Claymore, Lothric Knight Sword, or Astora Straight Sword, all of which are totally badass choices that can carry you as far as you want.
