This is an awesome park. You can do so many things including biking, walking, canoeing, fishing and picnicking. One of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor.

This park has it all! Areas to grill, picnic, ride bikes, jog or take a lovely walk along one of the many trails. The children's play area has just been updated and has some wonderful structures that encourage imagination and exercise.

Very nice all around park in the middle of the city. Tranquil views of the river; just opened a new playground; a little busy over the weekend but this is expected. Boating is nice over the summer but the boat selection a bit limited.

We rented 2 kayaks the weekend before 4th of July for the trip from Barton to Gallup. The place was packed! We arrived at 11am and could not get a shuttle to Barton until 1:50pm. Once we were on the river it was nice above Argo because the river was wide and everyone was going in the same direction(AKA- downstream). Once we got thru the Cascades, it was absolutely packed with tubers. 15-20 drunk college students with their tubes tied together floating down the river. Like hundreds of these groups! we could not get around them in our kayaks! Then in 2 spots the water was only about 4 inches deep and we had to get out a drag our kayaks. It wasn't fun.

Gallup Park offers something for everyone and is so conveniently located right in the city. There is a canoe livery with lots of boating options, walking/running/biking trails, several playgrounds, fishing, picnicking, dog walking, and beautiful scenery along the Huron River and pond. It's a great place to unwind and relax, or work up a sweat, your choice!

Enjoy the walking paths but my favorite is the kayak rentals. It's a lovely flat stretch of water, with interesting wildlife here and there.

Gallup Park is a nice little park, but the real attraction is the Huron River. The river is a blast, while the shore is so-so. There is a lack of shade and picnic tables, with a ton of goose droppings. There are also a ton of cars going in and out on summer weekends and holidays. My advice is to keep your time on land short!

Beautiful trails, scenic lake views, plenty of benches to relax and sit. Really enjoyed my time, especially having gone on a Monday morning when it was pretty quiet.

This is a great place to walk around! Very nice paths, beautiful lake. Some places felt crowded (near playgrounds), others quiet and isolated. Definitely recommend.

Can we bring our own kayaks or can we only rent?

Yes, you can bring your own and use the launch in the park, or you can rent from Skip's in the park. Skip's will drive you upriver so you can come down to your car at Delphi. If you bring your own kayak you may need two cars, One to launch upriver (at Hudson Mills) and another one at Delphi so you can go back upriver and get your other car.

Are there restrooms?

There are restrooms near the entrance, and also towards the back. You are probably no more than 10 minutes away from the closest one while in the Park.

Is alcohol allowed?
Rick M
Ann Arbor, MI51 contributions
Ann Arbor Parks have the following rule:
When in a Park no person shall:
Consume any alcoholic liquor. However, when the park is open, consumption of wine and beer is permitted except in park drives, parking lots, pools, skating rinks, tennis courts, play apparatus areas, and areas where consumption of all alcohol is prohibited by posted notice pursuant to City Council resolution. The administrator may issue permits for special events to allow the consumption of wine and beer in areas where such consumption would otherwise be prohibited.
Thus, some alcoholic beverages like beer and wine are permitted, especially if you get a permit, usually related to renting one of their pavilions or similar to host an event.

Does this or other park in AA have a wheelchair accessible paved trail, preferably along the river?
Rick M

Most Ann Arbor parks are wheelchair accessible, at least for the majority of their trails. I have been to most of our parks and cannot think of a trail that isn't.
