Summary

  • Gabriel Macht's role as Harvey Specter in the popular show Suits was his most recent acting role, and he hasn't starred in anything since the show ended in 2019.
  • Despite his success in Suits, Macht had a varied acting career prior to the show, with roles in films and appearances in popular TV shows.
  • Macht has expressed a desire to focus on his family and take a break from acting, so there are currently no announced projects for him in the future.

Considering how successful Suits was both during its original run and the years since it ended in 2019, many wonder what happened to Harvey Specter actor Gabriel Macht and what he's starred in since. The USA Network's popular legal drama Suits debuted in 2011, and as the face of the show, Gabriel Macht played successful attorney Harvey Specter, the self-described "best closer in the city," who hires a college dropout Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). Macht's performance was praised throughout suits, which makes it surprising the Harvey Specter actor hasn't had a more prominent career elsewhere.

Across the nine seasons, Harvey and Mike are joined in Suits by an ensemble of determined paralegals, out-for-themselves law partners, and profit-driven peers. While Mike made his Suits exit in season 7, Harvey Specter actor Gabriel Macht remained at the show's center right through until the end of season 9. Suits experienced a resurgence in popularity once it became available to stream, garnering an entirely fresh audience introduced to Harvey Specter for the first time — which, of course, means more people than ever are wondering what happened to Gabriel Macht after Suits finished.

7 Ways The Suits L.A. Spinoff Is Already Different From Suits

While much has yet to be revealed about Suits L.A., there are already some important differences between the spinoff and the original show.

Gabriel Macht Hasn't Acted Since Suits Ended In 2019

Playing Harvey Specter Is Still Gabriel Macht's Most Recent Role

Despite his stellar performance in the show, Harvey Specter actor Gabriel Macht hasn't starred in anything since Suits. This is especially surprising given that he was quite active before landing the role he's now most known for. After cutting his teeth in action-centric war and spy films like Bad Company, The Recruit, Behind Enemy Lines, and The Good Shepherd, Gabriel Macht landed the titular role in The Spirit, a neo-noir superhero film that was written and directed by Frank Miller (Sin City).

On the small screen, Macht had one-off stints in popular shows like Sex and the City, though he was also plagued by unaired pilots and shows that lasted just a few episodes.

On the small screen, Macht had one-off stints in popular shows like Sex and the City, though he was also plagued by unaired pilots and shows that lasted just a few episodes. In 2011, Suits changed Macht's trajectory. As the series co-lead, he was finally able to shine — and for an impressive nine seasons, no less. Landing the Harvey Specter role put a pause on Macht's film pursuits, though the actor picked up producing duties on Suits too.

Gabriel Macht can also be seen in one of the many shows to watch after Suits, appearing as Harvey in the short-lived spinoff series Pearson, which followed Gina Torres' titular powerhouse lawyer. While there is currently a new Suits spinoff planned, it's still unclear whether Gabriel Macht will return to play Harvey Specter in it once again. Outside of this possibility, Macht has seemed content to step away from acting, and there are currently no projects he's slated to appear in.

What Has Gabriel Macht Done Since Suits?

Gabriel Macht shares a scene with his Suits co-star

Despite not acting since 2019, Harvey Specter actor Gabriel Macht has enjoyed his post-Suits life. Initially, Macht planned to travel with his wife, fellow actor Jacinda Barrett (Bloodline), and children for a year or so. Macht told TV Insider in 2019:

"We invested so much of our lives and as great as an experience [Suits] has been — it has been such a blessing for so many of us... — I have a real sense of freedom having now finished it, and I’m happy... I want to put some creative heart, more focus and energy into [being with] my wife and my family."

For now, Macht seems to be taking a well-deserved break from acting and hasn't formally announced any new projects after Suits.

Gabriel Macht Reunited With His Suits Co-Stars In 2024

The Awards Ceremony Features A Mini Suits Reunion

While it's been several years since Suits left the air, the cast did reunite at an unexpected place — the 2024 Golden Globes. Gabriel Macht appeared alongside co-stars Ginna Torres (who played Jessica Pearson), Patrick J. Adams (Harvey's protégé Mike Ross), and Sarah Rafferty (who, of course, played Harvey's best friend and eventual lover, Donna Paulsen).

Macht and co presenting the award was at least another opportunity to enjoy the incredibly chemistry they share one more time.

The Suits cast members posed for photos on the red carpet before entering the event, and then later appeared on-stage to present the Golden Globe for Best TV Drama, which was won by Succession. Speaking before heading inside the venue, Gabriel Macht spoke to EW about the renewed popularity of Suits:

"It's an amazing thing, we had some great success when the show was on... and then at a certain point, Netflix came in. It's just gotten incredible eyes and we're very grateful for it."

While it's far from the Suits revival many fans of the show are no-doubt hoping for, Macht and co-presenting the award was at least another opportunity to enjoy the incredible chemistry they share one more time.

Gabriel Macht Is Unlikely To Be Part Of The Suits Spinoff

There's Been Nothing To Suggest Harvey Will Be In The New Show

With the news that a new Suits spinoff, titled Suits L.A, is in the works, many are wondering if Gabriel Macht will return to reprise his role as Harvey Specter. While he did appear in an episode of Pearson (the first spinoff of Suits), this was Gabriel Macht's last performance full stop, whether related to Suits or otherwise. His return for Suits L.A. wouldn't just be coming back to an old show for Macht, it would mean returning to acting as a career — something he may not be interested in.

However, co-star Patrick J. Adams did reveal that he'd be willing to Suits if given the opportunity, and also disclosed that both he and Macht know very little about the new show (via EW). "It's all in early stages," Adams explained at the Golden Globes, "it's a show in the Suits universe, like a Suits LA. If I got the phone call, I'm ready to suit up again."

So, while it looks like it may be possible for Mike to appear in Suits L.A., the chances of Harvey Specter joining him still look unlikely. While he was one of the most popular characters in Suits, it might just be that when the main show concluded in 2019 was the last time viewers would get to spend any significant time with him.
