I tried examining that sentence with a magnifying glass looking for differences from the current situation in the west. No differences could be found.

The US interference (when did it start?) reached eruption in the coup of 2014, and since then Ukrainians have been killing Ukrainians. I have wondered why, with the care Russia has taken to destroy military targets and avoid not only civilians but infrastructure like electricity, water, internet, why the number of alleged refugees flowing into other countries is supposedly 90% women and children. Do these women, who in most parts of Ukraine are probably not in danger, not mind at all leaving their men to fight and die “for Ukraine”, while they accept hospitality from people far away?
Women, qua our biological nature, are seeking social security and safety by someone who can protect them due to their vulnerability and responsibility for children.
If their men cant provide that, women will seek to other places or men who can.

It’s true the UN is corrupt and created as a tool to legitimize globalist action but it’s also an institution that can be leveraged against them. Russia has a security council seat and it would be stupid to waste the veto power it has.

The UN is beyond repair. It has too many design flaws. I think China, Russia, India, the emerging economies and the non-aligned countries should get together to found an alternative international organization somewhere in a small neutral country. There shouldn’t be any veto powers and countries’ voting rights should be weighted according to size, GDP, contributions, aid for development, environmental record, etc.
The big problem with UN aside from rampant corruption is its location i.e. the filthy NY. That gay/lesbian infested city isn’t the appropriate location for the UN. Besides when you’re saying our best hope is a joint military alliance, in the current circumstances this is exactly what NATO’s expansion is all about, then do you mean NATO is humanity’s last hope for salvation? I have a better solution, namely, the ideal solution would be first relocating the UN from NY to a more appropriate place that has better history and more dignity. Then, take away the US dollar privileged status away from the hands of the kids in Washington and their Zio handlers. Third, the world should help Mexico take back the three southern states of Texas, New Mexico and Nevada. Fourth, The eastern Parts of the US would go back to the native Indian tribes that lived there before the arrival of the newcomers by boat. Fifth, The northern states of Michigan, Main etc. can join Canada. Why Canada?, because Canada (without Trudeau of course) is a more responsible nation due to its historic links to the UK. Sixth, Biden must reimburse the blacks, Latinos, natives for all the crimes committed by the newcomers from Europe after the discovery of the Americas. Seventh, London must reimburse India and Ireland for all the crimes committed against them.

A co-worker recently pointed out (with keen insight) that many great ideas like democracy, communism, the UN, etc., are always idyllic, and rarely (if ever) take into account basic human crappy behavior. We need to change they way think, and how / what we prioritize.
At my most optimistic, I would say we’re witnessing the beginning of a shift in a more positive direction; Iran, Syria, and Russia are (have been) showing us that it is possible to stand up to bullies, and China is showing that it is possible for nations and peoples to cooperate with each other, rather than dominate each other.

While it is reasonable to conclude that the SMO is winding down, other events make it more likely that Phase II will begin soon. Those events are the US$40B approved for Lend-Lease type military spending, the Sweden-UK talks re mutual defence, and Finland’s overtures for NATO membership.
If the US plans are consistent with past actions, we can not only expect additional provocations that will be existential threats to Russia but, on a deeper level, that the decision makers in the US will not peacefully accept a multi-polar world.
The US domestic issues (rampant crime, homelessness, polarization by race and income, mistrust of government and media, etc.) will not draw the decision makers away from their global plans as those domestic issues have been weapons of the decision makers in pursuit of their global objective.

But, today there are reports that Russian-led forces attempted to establish at least three pontoon crossings near Bilohorivka and that this operation failed with many casualties on the Russian side.
So, I think it is wrong to say that the Ukrainian army is lost and incompetent as Andrei Martyanov always says. They are fighting very brave and they are motivated. This enemy must be respected.
Just as there is plenty of video evidence of the gradual destruction of the Ukrainian army, you must have links to a plethora of video evidence of this amazing Ukrainian victory. They would certainly shout about this from the rooftops…

As to the photos that allege to show these losses:
(To mod, I posted this elsewhere too, but the same stories about these so called Russian losses keep popping up and the same arguments against them still apply).
Southfront has detailed pictures of these so called Russian losses on their site, (you’ll have to got here to yourself, links not allowed to them). These show these alleged 73 pieces of lost equipment. They too claim these to be Russian.
One thing appears obvious immediately. Contrary to their claims, most of these vehicles are not destroyed at all. In fact, the majority show little or no signs of damage. They appear to have been simply abandoned. Or maybe not even abandoned?
Secondly, not one of those 73 vehicles shows any sign of the tactical markings we always see on Russian and DPR/LPR vehicles (like the Z or V), even thought the pictures are clear and detailed enough to show them, if they were there in the first place. There are also some clear side views of (undamaged?) vehicles which again, lack all tactical signs.
Also, all of the equipment in evidence is of types that are also used by the Ukrainians. There are no vehicles I’ve been able to spot which are unique to the Russians. But, quite a few of the BMP’s in the photos appear to be BMP-1’s (most even). That makes it considerably less likely to be Russian vehicles.
Finally, look at what is absent. There isn’t a single air defense vehicle is sight (note, these are also useful in intercepting many types of incoming artillery/rockets/missiles). Russian battalions have a lot of those. So, I’m to believe that the Russians somehow failed to deployed these along with the rest of those vehicles? At a river crossing site of all places? Which, according to the narrative, had been hit by artillery and rockets before? Seriously? Or am I to believe that all of those air defense vehicles somehow escaped destruction? Either is possible, in theory, but not very believable.
If i were to see these photos without any commentary about what I was supposed to be seeing, then I would have to conclude that based on what the photos themselves show, these are Ukrainian losses, not Russian.
There is additional, although circumstantial, evidence that these are not Russian.
First, all photos are zoomed in, making it almost impossible to pinpoint the location (based on the course of the river and other terrain features). The exact location would go a long way to prove whose vehicles these are. It would make sense for the Ukrainians to show zoomed out photos to prove their allegations, and through their US friends, they would have no trouble getting those pictures. And yet, they seem to be deliberately making it hard to pinpoint the exact location of these losses. That doesn’t add up.
What makes even less sense, is that we are only hearing about this now, well after it has happened, as the photos appear to be made days after these losses are incurred. You can tell because there is no fire in evidence. There’s smoke in only one location in one photo, and it’s not coming from a vehicle wreck, but appears to come from a smoke generator. Some vehicles have clearly burned out, which takes time. There doesn’t seem to be anyone around either, so all rescue and recovery operations seem to have been concluded. So some time has passed between the strikes and when these pictures were taken, likely at least one day.
The lack of recovery operations is odd too. If these are Russian losses, inflicted by Ukrainian artillery, and most vehicles appear to be intact, why are they not being recovered? You would expect to see at least some activity of that kind.
But the big one is this, if the Russians had indeed lost over a battalion worth of armored vehicles, it would be the single greatest battle victory for the Ukrainians of the entire war. So why are we only hearing about it days later, when these photos suddenly pop up? Why didn’t we hear about it when it actually happened? Why would the Ukrainians have kept quiet about it? If they were hitting the Russians like this, they must have known what they were doing. They’re in desperate need of victories (just look at their efforts at Snake Island), so why didn’t they announce this one?
Especially considering the timing! If true, this has to have happened around the 9th of may. Just consider the impact of such a Russian defeat around that date. Why didn’t the Ukrainians, or the Americans, show the world then, with clear proof, of what had happened, just after it had? That would have been a massive propaganda victory. Yet neither of them did. Which is also a kind of proof.
Instead, all we have are some weak Ukrainian claims, well after the fact, combined with photos of dubious provenance, which don’t appear to show what it is claimed they show (Russian losses). It all reeks of improvisation.
All in all, I find it extremely unlikely that these are Russian losses, and highly likely to be Ukrainian ones.

When I looked at the pictures this morning from Southfront I had an accute case of Congnitieve dissonance.
I could not believe that the Russians would try to cross several times over an area that was covered by artillery.
I also found strange that on one side across the river there were so many “destroyed”vehicles. They could have moved forward. Like they were waiting unless it was one hell of a barrage.

Thanks, but i have to make clear, I don’t know for a fact what these photos show.
There also appears to be a video of this location which tells a different story. For one, as I already observed, most vehicles appear to be intact. The video corroborates it. Some of them are moving, others have people freely walking around unbothered. The camouflaged uniforms makes them very hard to see on the photos, but in the video you can see them moving about.
There’s also construction going on, one of the alleged ‘destroyed’ bridges, looks like it is still being assembled, so not destroyed at all. Two alleged ‘destroyed’ vehicles (BMK’s in the photos) appear to be using their amphibious capability to wade across.
I’ve looked closer at the photos to count the number of vehicles which appear to be clearly destroyed (burnt out, blown of turrets, that sort of thing). As far as I can tell, there are only twelve. One more (a BMP) looks like it has the deck plate covering the engine compartment partly removed. It’s next to several wrecked T72’s, which suggests it has suffered serious engine trouble.
At least half of the others don’t look damaged at all, and for the rest, you simply can’t tell for sure either way.
Another question is whether all of the vehicles you see belong to the same side. The reports suggest that the Ukrainians may also have used ground forces to try and contest the crossing, not just artillery. That may explain the presence of the BMP-1’s (several of which are clearly destroyed). Given the supposed location, some of the troops may be from the LPR. They use quite a bit of older equipment too. Including BMP-1’s (just to further obfuscate the picture!)
I’ve been peering more closely at these pictures, and one vehicle does appear to have a round O painted on its side (which is used by some of the newer arrivals on the front line), while a couple of others may have some kind of tactical sign painted on them too. It hard to tell from the angle what it is. To be honest, given that these are mostly overhead shots, for most vehicles it impossible to tell if they have a tactical sign or not painted on (it’s usually painted a the sides, front and/or back, not on top). That they are parked under trees and the bright contrast don’t help either.
One explanation I’ve read is that this shows a combination of losses (from both sides?) of the first crossings and subsequent combat (the twelve clear wrecks and maybe a handful more), combined with the operational (Russian/LPR) vehicles that made it across subsequently and are either moving about (which you can’t tell on the photos) or which have been parked under the trees for cover (which is the majority of vehicles).
That explanation seems plausible and in line with what we’re seeing. The RF took some losses (the blown up T72’s next to the crossing in particular) which the Ukrainians are now trying to amplify into massive losses through deceptive selection and interpretation of photos of the scene.

Those have a mix of partially destroyed, working, and fully destroyed but useful for parts.
Would also have a mix of Russian and Ukrainian vehicles as both can be repaired and put into use
I hadn’t thought of that; a collection point of damaged and destroyed equipment from the wider area, and from both sides, would explain a lot of what we are seeing too.
One of the vehicles has been identified as a MT-LB based ambulance (soviet-era), which is said to be used by Ukraine, and not by Russia. It seems a bit out of place here.
I don’t know if we are looking at the same video, but go through it a few times. Look at the details: the direction of the tank guns, along the ridge, the pontoon bridging material is on the wrong side of the river (lets bring the extra pontoons across to the other side, and stash them there, well, because we can, and if the bridge gets damaged we can swim over to retrieve them), the egress of the bridge is straight up an incline at a ridiculously bad angle for an attacker. etc…
To me it looks like a substantial amount of Uke armor got cut off on the wrong side of a river and they tried to extract it, under very difficult and dubious conditions. Everything you see in the video makes sense with that interpretation. The way the Western media portrays it, implies the Russians would have had to attended the Gomer Pyle school of combat engineering to manage such a debacle. (lol)

As for the $40 billion in U.S. arms, it is being held in Congress and may not even leave American shores until the end of the month. Will the weapons be used or even work properly? Highly doubtful. Will what’s left of Ukraine after the war end up paying for the equipment if it is destroyed? Highly unlikely.
The interesting thing about all the Western weapons is that, if they are performing as poorly as some accounts indicate, this could be disastrous for western defense contractors trying to peddle their wares across the world.
The $40 billion is not for weapons. It is to reimburse family members of American politicans who invested their money in Ukrainian ventures over the past two decades. Biolabs, military facilities, agricultural projects, etc. The Ukraine was a “forward base” to “open up” the Russian market; that it, to reduce Russia to a client state per the 1990s. That Europeans invested considerably more in this project and are NOT being reimbursed.

Time for some clarification.
As I posted in my initial comment, there are ample considerations why what the pictures are showing are not 73 wrecked Russian combat vehicles. As a result, my first reaction was to go the other way, and think that these are Ukrainian losses.
However, 73 Ukrainian armored vehicle losses doesn’t make a whole lot of sense either, does it? Where and when would they have assembled such a force for a river crossing? If that many of their vehicles had been taken out in short order, we would have heard about it too. It would have been too big a victory to ignore for the Russian side too.
So now, I believe that what we are seeing are mostly intact (Russian) vehicles, or vehicles with only fairly light damage. The losses that are in evidence, may well be from both sides, including some abandoned Ukrainian ones. The BMP-1’s that are destroyed, I suspect were part of their counter-attack force, while the wrecked T72’s near the river are most likely Russian ones. (Most of the destroyed BMP-1’s and T72’s seem to be facing in opposite directions).
The initial Ukrainian counter attack by ground forces seems to have failed, after which they resorted to ‘pinpoint’ artillery (and drone?) attacks aimed at the bridge itself. It looks like they succeeded twice in taking out a bridge, only for the Russians to build a new one. Some of the Russian losses may be collateral damage from strikes at the bridges themselves.
Despite this, the Russians continued to bring troops across which, in the pictures, are parked under cover across the river.
Conclusion; I don’t think there are more than twenty knocked out vehicles in the photos, and it may well be less than that. I also also suspect we’re seeing losses from both sides here.
Woke math Harry; 7+3=73……does sound like both sides lost their share of equipment and personnel in the same area, so likely a bit of both as you surmise.

That motivation comes as a rude shock, and we don’t know that motivation comes from the Nazi “corset” or NATO instructors. But either way, we think most of the Ukie corps fighting east of the Dneiper River, have about 10% commisars, ready to shoot anyone who wants to quit. The Ukie military must be respected,, and I’m sure they are, as a dangerous fighting force. But the sort of Nazi nationalism and as proxies for a foreign empire that they are fighting for, only an idiot could respect. They are on a fool’s errand that only benefits people outside Ukraine.

Russia would be justified in preemptive war on Finland. Perhaps another “special military operation”, designed to change out Finland’s political class, not to wipe out all of Finland. The SMO option may be the least costly in the long run. I’m glad I’m not making that decision. But if Russia fights Finland, it can be less careful about the lives of Finland’s soldiers than it is now being with the Ukie soldiers. Finland is a democracy, and even in a democracy with a lying news media, the citizens are free and responsible.

I am very pessimistic. Russia seems to have real difficulties to break the ukrainian army’s backbone and even if they succed to break it within six months, it will have just prove how Russia is limited in its ability to fight a major war. If NATO enters the war, Russia will have to use nuclear weapons to compensate for its weakness and this exposure is increasing every day if you listen to US and Europe media.

They are breaking it’s backbone.
It took the allies two and a half months of fighting in Normandy in 1944, gaining ground only very slowly, to break the German army facing them. Then, when they did break them, they broke out and in two and a half weeks, they liberated nearly all of France, Belgium and the southern parts of the Netherlands.
Contrary to events in Normandy in 1944, losses are now far more one sided. But it still takes time to grind down an opposing force to breaking point. And it’s a very uneven process. For quite a while it will appear to go frustratingly slowly, which will create the illusion that this is the pace at which it will continue to evolve. It won’t. There will be a breaking point, and then things will go very fast for a while.
Whether the Ukrainians will completely break and lose the war altogether, or if, like the Germans in 1944, they can manage recover to some degree further west and put up significant resistance again, remains to be seen. Even of they manage to do so, they will still lose a lot of ground first.

Have you read the reports coming out of the EU and European countries about their state of military readiness? Apparently France only has a week or two’s worth of ammunition at the rate its being used in Ukraine. Britain has too few front line troops to make a difference. The US is far away and its military not designed to fight this sort of war (not to mention an aircraft carrier sitting in the Mediterranean that would likely become an artificial reef). Half of Germany’s equipment isn’t combat ready. Granted, this may be some degree of disinformation but especially on the European side, defense spending has been very low for a long time and these militaries have been structured for a very different type of war. Not only that, but unless Russia invades other European nations (highly unlikely), they will have to mount an offensive against Russia. They may be able to defend Germany or France, but can they invade Russia?
I’m not saying that Russia will break the Ukrainian army or when, but given the contours of the conflict, we can expect that it will be like Hemingway’s description of bankruptcy, gradually and then all at once.
The US/NATO doesn’t really understand the Russian way of fighting, or waging war. This being a SMO, its done even differently. The “West” more likely learns from Hollywood. :)

Every newscast here in the UK shows another tranche of refugees arriving into the country from Ukraine via Poland, mainly women and children with a few more elderly. We have a proud tradition of welcoming such people into our country, long may that continue. But how can we look these distraught strangers in the eye as we welcome them knowing that it is US State Dept policy aided and abetted by Downing Street and the EU which is sending their menfolk needlessly to slaughter?
The opportunity for negotiated peace is now gone, another $40b will soon line the pockets of our ruling elites and fifty thousand more young men face death, injury or (hopefully) capture in this attempt to maintain US hegemony. How sad our world has become.

“implementing” (read: “not implemented”) and “study” (as in look/watch – not “act”) aren’t exactly words for criminal prosecution. Not trying to spoil the party but there is ample wiggle room for the US to deny (of course it would deny the obvious, but this is far short of actual actions, which would be the “obvious”).
Though it’s a very good bet to suspect the worst (as this fits the US’s behavior and history) without being able to demonstrate that there’s ACTS involved then it is little more than a “thought crime.” Don’t get me wrong, I DO wish there were a smoking gun; I just don’t believe that one has been found. This is little more than Russian efforts to build up a rap sheet, not too unlike propaganda in the US/West that tries to piece in all sorts of silly crap (not that this is silly) to create their mountain of “evidence.”
The ONLY “solution” is for the Russians to finalize their operation, successfully. The US/West will NEVER be prosecuted, no matter how much we would want that.

A Ukrainian soldier told The New York Times two or three days ago about how it is to face heavy artillery fire. He said the Russians knew “exactly” where they were and had them like “in the palm of their hand.” They always have a lookout on guard and once he knows a projectile is coming at them, they have no more than three seconds to jump into their trench. Two or three weeks ago another soldier was also describing a similar situation, saying they were facing total destruction unless they also received longer range artillery to use.
It does not look like Putin reacted well at all to Finland’s bid to join NATO. He ‘apparently’ makes decisions all alone. He apparently does not think there is anyone around him whose judgment is remotely as good as his. It’s not that he is conceited. He just might be right. Patrushev? No, please. Glazyev? Come on. Peskov? Like a nice sounding board for him. Shoigu? No. Lavrov? Probably the one with the biggest influence, yet without being really influential at the judgment level. It’s all Putin. 2) Quite long ago, Finland told Putin that it was thinking about joining NATO. Quite long ago, it was known that Russia would place hypersonic and nuclear weapons close to Finland if it did that. Quite long ago. it was known – I knew – that this did not and would not deter Finland.
3) It’s quite clear that Russia itself will not really rely on this measure of moving those weapons close to Finland. It doesn’t solve the “threat” and leaves it dependent on what Finland might do in the future. So, this is not really the last countermeasure. He said that Russia couldn’t allow hypersonic weapons to ever be placed in Ukraine because they could reach Moscow in five minutes. Finland looks closer on the map to many areas of Russia as the neighbor it is. Why wouldn’t a similar logic be eventually applied to them?
We knew before like we know now that Putin doesn’t tell you he is going to punch you (he said you hit first if you know you are going to get hit). He may give you some indirect warnings and then “wham!” I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t absorb all of Ukraine, like he hinted might happen. Not to say or imply that he should have made clear to Finland what was made clear to the world regarding Ukraine, but, in view of the fact that it was known that Finland was not impressed by Russia’s warnings about new missiles close to Finland, I think he should have done something more or something else…What he is doing now does not work, unsurprisingly. He could have made the truth clearer, which is clear regarding Ukraine now, namely that whether joining NATO or not makes Finland safer is up to Russia in the end. So, without speaking of war, I think he still could have been more forceful, and he like needed to be since the present course obviously does not deter or change Finland’s (military) plans. And the survival of the human race may be at stake.
I just read that Turkey does not see anything positive in getting Sweden and Finland to join the NATO. Al Nato members must agree if the party to join is ready and can act positively to the strenght of the organisation.

That’s nonsense. You have zero reason for believing that, and you are wasting fresh air to say it. Let’s start with Sergei Shoigu (Сергей Шойгу) being best friends with VVP, spending long vacations together. There is no need to said it again, if some western country has reading problems it is up to that country to improve its regime abilities. It will s not up to Russia to act as an adviser for western politicians. Russia already spoke (trough Lavrov), now Russia will act in ord t to protect it’s safety, security, and best interests.
The president of Finland stated two reasons that made him decide Finland should join NATO: 1) Russia said no neighbor like Finland can join NATO, 2) The invasion of Ukraine.
We know how he thinks then. Number one cannot serve as a sufficient cause unless there is a personal dislike for Russia. For the answer could simply be that there was no such intention before and not any now (maybe say Russia imagines things or add some other criticism). Number two happened because Ukraine would not renounce joining NATO and because Ukraine would not keep the Minsk agreements. It is alleged that it planned to invade the Donbass, but this would not count if the Minsk agreements had been fulfilled.
So, if the joining of NATO caused a war for Ukraine, why does Finland want to join NATO? Again, we go back to number one – a strong dislike for Russia, perhaps even an inferiority complex (big country-small country, great nation-common nation, great weapons-no great weapons, etc.). I think this can be assuaged with the right tough talk (“…from neutral to enemy”), as it should be. Other members may understand as well. Biden is welcoming Sweden and Finland, and anyone who can join, apparently self-convinced of the NATO “free membership” (Gym type) principle. He needs to awaken to the question of national security interests of just the United States, and think whether his country should fight for Finland if Russia attacks it, especially because he must be relieved that it doesn’t have to fight for Ukraine and since he says WWIII must be avoided. Nobody can be ‘autistic’ here.
As we see, there is a lot of irrationality and the best way to deal with that is always straightforwardly (not too diplomatically); if you know them and how to speak to them – all the better.
Yes, I think the Finnish and Swedish rumblings are more about virtue signalng and posturing than a real threat. It is highly unlikely NATO will accept them.–only one objection is needed. I don’t think Putin spoke like that. The same words would of been perfect – the key words are “from neutral into enemy” and “target.” It’s better than something like “if you do that, we’ll have a military-technical response, placing the latest weapons close to Finland.” Maybe nothing dissuades crazy provokers, but the first message has a far greater chance of dissuading Finland’s adversarial government. Also, if you give a softer message than the actual policy you may follow later, it’s worse even.
A lot of pessimism today in the comments. It’s unwarranted, personally I see the Russian operation succeeding little by little. The goal here is not to gain ground but to force a collapse of the UAF via manpower losses.
The more Zelensky and the AFU send forces to fight in the East the more targets the Russians have and opportunity to destroy AFU equipment/personnel. Unfortunately for Ukraine at large the goal for the Russian military I do not believe is to hold gained territory at all costs but rather to destroy/cause the surrender of as many AFU personnel as possible.
Russia cannot force the flow of weapons to stop from the West but they can destroy enough personnel from the AFU, that the remains of the AFU then rebel against the Kiev regime and force a coup and sign an unconditional type surrender to the Russians in exchange for a new status quo with new Ukrainian borders.
The number of weapons for this conflict from the west is virtually unlimited, the number of people willing to die on the western side is highly limited so far to mostly AFU personnel, that’s the variable the Russians are working on slowly and surely. The AFU has not broken yet which I admit is surprising but there is a limit to the stress it can endure, by keeping the action in the East, Russia is fighting on better ground than fighting in the West, in the East the Russian border is near and supply lines are easier to maintain as well as LPR/DPR troops with good fighting experience on their side.
In short Russia is using Zelensky’s and the Wests propaganda/media war of not giving up a single inch of Ukrainian territory and the myth that Ukraine can militarily defeat Russia to Russias advantage by having the Ukrainians send more and more troops to the East where Russia has more advantages.
If the AFU/Zelensky was not operating on propaganda wins they would actually withdraw from the East and bait the Russians to follow and thereby stretch their supply lines as supply and organization seem to be the weak point of the Russian forces, the majority of Russian losses happened with the Kiev push. This whole propaganda war that Ukraine is winning is proving disastrous on the ground for their actual strategic military manpower losses.

I’d disagree slightly with the suggestion that the Russians are working on any single variable. The depletion and demoralization of combat capable forces is certainly a key factor. But so is the destruction of those “virtually unlimited” armaments from the west, and/or at least preventing them from reaching the combat capable forces in active operational areas. From what I’m able to distill from the admittedly confused and incomplete reports that are available, I’d “guestimate” that the latter focus is being at least as heavily emphasized at present by Russia’s centers as the former.
Somebody more knowledgeable than I please correct me if I’m wrong about that.

The door for the AFU to west ukraine is still wide open. i mean we are hearing always, AFU is running out of fuel, ammunition, vehicles etc. but why it is still possible for the AFU to hold their ground at Donezk ? I find a lot positive in what’s going on between NATO and Russia. How many countries have complained that they’re about out of weapons to send, that they’ve drawn their own stockpiles way down? It’s as if Russia had said, “Would everyone please bring their weapons and put them in a pile here where we can blow them up?”
Very few of the weapons sent have made any difference in Ukraine, but it’s certainly made a difference back home in the NATO cupboards. Yes, of course they can order more, but it doesn’t happen overnight–and it costs lots of money.

Challenges to Russia emerging. Not only the Baltic Sea perhaps becoming under NATO influence but I would put this also with Greece becoming literally a huge US/NATO military base at the strategic opening of the Black Sea. Turkey is not happy with the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO and cites Greece’s behavior in the alliance towards Turkey. Here is hoping Erdogan sticks to his guns on this one. I see this in the opposite way. These look like near desperation moves by NATO, partly because in a functional alliance all of these details would be worked out behind closed doors and then announced in their final (or near final) form with broad support. These moves suggest that there isn’t strong leadership or even strategic thinking. In Finland NATO now has to protect a much larger border; who does this and how? There’s PR value but how much actual strategic value?
Much is made about Russian statements regarding returning NATO to 1997 borders with an assumption that this will be done via military means. I disagree with that assumption. NATO is a relatively brittle organization that’s highly dependent on support from the US. In my opinion, a medium term effect of the Ukraine conflict is to show that the US will give you money and guns but otherwise let you die. In-fighting within NATO is a real danger to it, like Greece and Turkey. And any significant economic downturn in the US is likely to produce an inward facing government unwilling to keep pumping money into NATO allies (the opposite reaction and world war is also possible, but the US military is brittle and over-extended too). Many of the Eastern European NATO members are facing a severe depletion of their equipment stocks via Ukraine. They’re promised modernization but what’s the real timeline for that?
And those NATO members nearest Russia are also hearing more western NATO members talk about how NATO needs to focus attention on the Indo-Pacific region. No realistic projection could have NATO as it stands be able to rearm itself, increase its presence to counter Russia in Europe *and* have the immediate means to operate with a larger presence in East Asia on a timeline of less then a decade.

The intensity of RF action is maintained at a high level primarily through artillery and missile attacks. Hybrid warfare (political / economic) is just beginning.
From my comfy armchair it seems obvious that once the surrounded AFU in eastern Ukraine has surrendered and / or been completely destroyed, Russia will focus on Odessa, which could be a replay of Mariupol if Ukraine does not capitulate (which it won’t, as it is on remote control from Lagley, VA). After that I think the RF will carefully sweep west to complete demilitarization and denazification.
I fully expect Ukraine to continue destroying itself in a war of foregone conclusion. As citizens rise up – indicated by various sources that is beginning – the SBU will clamp down even harder. You can’t hide the deaths of >30,000 soldiers and complete economic collapse no matter how much you censor or how much propaganda you put out.
If I had to predict an “end” it would be Zelensky running the Ukrainian government in exile from a luxurious apartment in London (while sitting on billions in offshore accounts pilfered from economic aid) while what remains of Ukraine (less the eastern portion and whatever Poland tries to lop off for itself) collapses upon itself like a black hole, becoming a haven for international criminals (even moreso than it already was) and US backed terrorist proxies aimed at Russia.
Which will of course not be the end of anything but rather just the beginning of the next phase of operations.

We’ve been hearing for weeks now about how Russia would target the Ukrainian leadership decision making centers in Kiev if they targeted Russia. So far since then there have been about a dozen attacks on Russian soil.The latest killed a child and injured 6 other people. Well here we are with this official saying they want to target Russia. It’s past time to start ” walking the walk” and stop just “talking the talk”. If they had done that weeks ago that child would probably be alive today. If there are government officials unwilling for whatever reason to protect their citizens. It’s time for them to move over and let those that will protect their citizens take their place.And that goes for those however high in power they may be.Pretty soon (it should have already happened) citizens in those border regions are going to start asking hard questions about the lack of protection they have been getting.
Caution is needed here I think. That’s an odd statement to make by the Ukranian Minister especially when UAF are in serious trouble now and are suffering heavier losses every day. It could be a ploy to get Russia to hit the decision making centres as a mechanism by which to incur further hatred of Russia by the West and hey presto, NATO will find an excuse to enter the conflict. I trust the RF’s President and his military advisors but the FSB is outstanding in their intelligence work. Rand Paul has put a block on this money going anywhere and is demanding a detailed and full audit of all the money that has been sent to Ukraine prior to this. It’s a start. Appreciate the reply. I agree that there more than a few layers here and it goes beyond just NATO. It’s certainly possible that the west’s plans are successful too. I think the big problem the west has is that it plans using best case scenarios because it expects no effective opposition. The US is leveraging nations like Finland to do stupid stuff in the context of war fever. It will realize short term gains for sure, but it is not very good at stringing short term gains together.
The OAS appears to be falling apart in near open revolt against the US. Will that be permanent? Probably not. But it matters because the US has a short attention span and is getting into a situation where it has brush fires everywhere at the same time. I’m interested in the after analysis of the ASEAN meeting, it could be telling.
When I attempt a historical perspective on the US right now it’s hard to see anything but late imperial, stretched way too thin, long successful on reputation and threats alone, beginning to experience internal divisions and lacking much in the way of clear purpose or unity of strategic behavior because the driving force is the people with power/money wanting primarily to keep it. As an American I worry a lot because I know full well our “leadership” class is full of incompetent psychopaths who will keep doubling down and seeking refuge in a mythical ideology of good vs evil. Around Dolgenkiy, the enemy concentrated large forces with armored vehicles and artillery.

In Canada, propaganda represents the news. There is no way for the viewer to determine the validity of information presented. There is no way for a discerning listener to challenge the bias, inference, fact, and judgement which is claimed to be authentic and objective.
As Howard Zinn wrote “Democracy depends on citizens being informed, and since our media, especially television, reports mostly what the people in power do” as they repeat what the people in power want you to know. The public is badly informed, bias is relentless, the narrative of NATO and the Ukrainian produced information are repeated and expressed most directly. For example, the government political, economic, religious, military, ethnic or social class point of view predominates the news. The society is brainwashed, and absolute ignorance prevails on any topic of Russia.
On a recent campaign trail, the NDP (supposed socialist) Leader Jagmeet Singh was attacked and called a traitor by a hostile crowd. There are several reasons why this could have happened. It could have been racism from the right-wing -Nazi elements in Canadian society to hate Jagmeet as he is an Indo Canadian. It could have been Singh’s betrayal of socialist principles and partnership with Trudeau’s rabid support for NATO militarism.
Or it could have been Singh’s critic for Foreign Affairs, Heather McPherson (anti coal, anti-oil) who hails from Alberta a predominantly Ukrainian voting block in Edmonton, the same area that Trudeau’s Ukrainian lobbyist Chrystia Freeland the granddaughter of a Nazi Michael Chomiak calls home.
If in fact this attack was racist which it seems to be, why is Sigh supporting the most racist elements in our society and by extension the racist elements in Ukraine. The CBC news is always preempted with emotive language, a warning of graphic video which appeals to emotions or oversimplification that attempt to sway the viewer to support a point of view, so he/she can feel anger, fear, patriotism, love or hate. We are fed one or two clips produced in Ukraine, usually portraying Russian soldiers as rapists, war criminals, boozers, or deserters.
The newsreader never tells us the SOURCE of the video clip which miraculously appear out of context and in places where the Russians have been and left, so the Ukrainian soldiers buried in mass are resurrected as civilians. In one clip we are told that a Russian soldier was buried with the civilians and the innuendo is that Russians lack compassion unlike the Ukrainian Nazis who desecrate the monuments to the millions of Ukrainian and other Soviet soldiers who liberated Europe from Nazism. In another clip from a safe place in Copenhagen, a woman is interviewed who was supposedly strip-searched at a Russian check point but did not have her backpack searched. Another video shows four Russian soldiers breaking into a building attacking two elderly men, they then leave and come back and shoot them and then go to the office to have a drink to celebrate. How fuc—g stupid do you think we are?
We are never told how this information was gathered. The information is simplified to create an image in the uneducated masses of Canada that have been brought up on Russophobia so that even a Russian person will fear telling someone that they are Russian.

The subject is compared to something pleasant or unpleasant, and the words used sway the viewer to think positively or negatively about the subject.
They ignore the Ukrainian history of Nazism, homophobia, racism and defend the Azov battalion with sympathetic photograph of soldiers in the steel plant tunnels as the victims rather than individuals whose policies denied the Russian people in Ukraine to speak their own language, killed police officer in the Maidan, and burned people in buildings in Odessa and killed some 14,000 people in the Donbass.
What sells in the Canadian media is lies by omission. For example, 80% of all the fighting in W.W.II was on the Russian Front, yet school textbooks devotes about 10% of space to this event. The Media is even worse they never, never provide a Russian perspective nor do they draw any conclusions from the facts from Vietnam, Cambodia, South America, Africa, Yugoslavia, and the Middle East of why Russia does not trust NATO locating in their backyard.
FACTS or events that are verifiable and are known to be true are ignored, and made-up events replace evidence. An anti-Kremlin journalist that dies in Russia, the death is automatically linked to the Kremlin while the death of 15 Aljazeera journalists who died in the last 20 years in targeted assassinations, like the Middle East refugees, are unworthy of consideration or protection.

Haaretz (an Israeli newspaper) had an interview with the deputy commander of the Azov battalion. In the interview they asked him directly, “Can you say that the fighters of the battalion do not have actual swastikas tattooed on their bodies?” And he responds, “There are no swastikas.” However, the photo at the top of the article shows an Azov member in some kind of procession with a black sun tattoo clearly visible on his elbow. I guess technically it isn’t a swastika, but is there really a difference?
No one in the comments section seems to have noticed, but I’m guessing as soon as someone says something, they will change the photo. I thought I would post it here before that happens.

We shouldn’t get our hopes up that Turkey and/or other NATO states will block Finland and Sweden joining. Blocking Ukraine didn’t stop the country from being de facto NATOized (which is already the case with the Nordics, who are NINO [neutral in name only]). Their joining NATO merely regularizes the de facto situation, relieving Russia of the need to restrict its military dispositions out of respect for their “neutrality”.
As for what Russia does in response, that remains to be seen. They will almost certainly regard Finland’s renunciation of the commitment to neutrality in perpetuity that ended its state of war with Russia as a renewed declaration of war — what else can they do? The only question is how public Russia will be about it. Putin is renowned for patience and keeping his cards close; he’ll probably wait for the just the right moment to respond, ratcheting up towards the military-technical response that’s already been promised. But that will probably have to wait until Ukraine is properly subdued, which could take months or more.
I think that Finland will come after Russia mops up in Syria (unfinished business- Donbass was an emergency that interrupted that work in Syria). Hoping that Russia will purge Israel out of Syria (wich, of course, includes Golan Heights), force it to stop bombing Syria.

I think that quickly Russia is coming to see that no country on their border can be permitted to be really independent. The Soviet’s in 1945 understood that. Fresh from the horrors of WW2,with the smell of gunpowder still almost in the air. They understood that and created the Warsaw Pact as a buffer. Lazy after years of peace the Russians forgot the lessons from that genocidal war. And allowed those buffers to be stripped away. It’s time for Russia to correct that mistake.And never let it be forgotten again. If those states want to be Russia’s enemies they need to be shown what that entails. Wanting and supporting a Multi-Polar world doesn’t mean Russia should sit by and permit another giant power to form an organization of states pledged to destroy Russia. Her own security should always come before any other considerations. Russia over the centuries has suffered too much from attacks from/through those states to ever totally trust them again.
