Yankees star shortstop Gleyber Torres might want to watch his back. Here comes Michael King.

There’s been plenty of chatter about Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres losing his gig this offseason and being forced to move to second base.

There’s been no chatter, however, about Gleyber Torres losing his gig to relief pitcher Michael King…until now.

King got the Twitter ball rolling on Sunday night by posting his old yearbook photo and biography, featuring a not-so-subtle dig from the deep past at his current teammate. Turns out, King’s living out a variation of his personal childhood dream, but still has one more bridge to cross.

“Starting shortstop for the New York Yankees” is going to get most of the play here (and rightfully so), but pay special attention to King describing himself as “athletic and helpful.” We should all be so lucky as to have someone describe us as those two things, and nothing else.

In the midst of an offseason full of trolling his rivals in the world of MLB: The Show, Torres took the bait, and responded to King’s generous offer to switch positions.

We don’t think it’s going to happen, but we can’t rule it out.

Best two-seamer in the league. High praise right there.

We do agree that King’s got a nasty two-piece, and we’d like to see how it manifests itself in short relief next year. Just go full throttle for an inning at a time and bore that thing in on righties/cut it away from lefties.

Or, switch to shortstop and chuck two-seamers at Luke Voit, bothering the hell out of him in the process. Your call entirely.

This is a budding bromance we never suspected existed outside the locker room, but we love it. Also, shoutout to Young King for his slicked-back almost-mullet. Very impressive.
