free video editing software
what is the best free video editing software? im a complete beginner with basic understanding of photo editing software like gimp, but wanna get into video as well
DaVinci Resolve is free and very powerful, although not super intuitive at first. With a couple tutorials and hours of messing around you can get comfortable with it pretty quickly though. The color correction features in it are unmatched, and you can also throw in complex effects with the "Fusion" stuff.
I just got into video editing this year and Resolve is the first editor I tried that really made sense to me. Great free version, full version is not a subscription so worthwhile if you really get into it.
They also have great training videos on their website.
Just learn resolve. Don’t waste your time elsewhere.
Look up hitfilm express. They have a free editing software and a youtube channel with a ton of tutorials and the software will help teach you the basics of video editing so its not so hard when you go to intermediate or pro softwares like davinci resolve or premiere pro

So did I
its bad it shows the watermark legit everywhere even with paid version it shows watermark at end i have to remove it from windows trimmer
I second hitfilm express. Comes with every 3 you need to get started. If there are effects/features you need you can add on easily. No one on my family knew anything about editing when I got started, so learning from scratch was going to be tough. There are a ton of tutorials done by hitfilm and others on YT once you get started it's pretty easy to get a handle on.
I use something called "kden live" its very simple but confusing at times. There's plenty of tutorials on how to use it on youtube if you need help.
Allright thanks ill check it out, how wiuld you compare this one to filmora 9?
It doesn't have as many features in terms of effects, but it has everything you need like transform, chroma key, etc.
Thanks, ill check it out tomorrow
Filmora 9 is not free it requires a subscription or else you will have to use a watermark but filmora is easy and simple
i love kdenlive, it seems to be pretty capable although it can definitely be really weird about certain things. it does seem to be getting more stable though with some of the more recent updates.
Yeah, for me at least, it lags a little when editing in 1080 60fps but other than that, it's good. And with the auto save feature you can easily re open your projects if it crashes.
Just bite the bullet and learn Resolve, you’ll be further ahead in the long run. I wish I never wasted so much time trying on different softwares, rather than just drilling into one
Very well said.
There’s Davinci Resolve (A small powerhouse, not that great but better than most)
There’s Shotcut (completely free, no watermark or anything, but it isn’t that powerful and takes some effort to work)
Thats funny that you describe Davinvi as more powerful. I tried switching to Davinci, but it lagged when I imported an hour long video to edit. Shotcut never lags for me no matter how much footage I have in the timeline.
I like everything about Davinci more, but the lag makes it unworkable for me right now.
Understandable. Davinci is more laggy, but you’re able to add more and more complex effects to the videos.
But yeah, Shotcut can handle a lot more video than Davinci
I'm going to experiment with using Shotcut to cut the footage I need, then using Davinci for the effects and sound editing
Good idea. Be careful though since sometimes Shotcut can cut down on the video quality.
Davinci Resolve is by far the best video editing software (Paid) therefore making it the hands down winner for a free software.
I cried real tears, when I started using it after being fed up with Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Their SFX (After Effects) and Audio (Audition) are already baked into the platform and it also performs bulk rendering like Adobe Media Encoder
Also nodes (Fusion) were easier for me to understand and implement than After Effects.
They also give you a Library of Sound effects that you download for free.
I can't speak their praises enough. Most of my hesitance with consistent uploads was from my apprehension of working in Premiere Pro
DaVinci Resolve
Davinci Resolve
I am currently using shotcut. Been working great for me so far. Still lear isn’t how to use it but it’s been good
although it makes my cruddy laptop lag, davinci resolve is a good way to go. i use it a lot! i've seen other editing softwares, but i think davinci resolve looks a lot less complicated. [as long as you know what the buttons do that you use the most]
Videopad was free but I think if you use it now then you can't export your video on the free version. Which sucks because that was what I used for YouTube for years!
I use lightworks. It's free and pretty good. You can export up to 720p, and there's no watermark. I use it for video edits, like trailer-style edits and stuff. It does lag sometimes though, but I think that's my computer
Hello! Perhaps something changed in the past year, but is Lightworks still free for basic editing?
Thanks!!
Hey there!
Sorry, I honestly am not sure. I think it is, but I don't use it anymore. I ended up upgrading to Adobe so I could do HD videos and such
If you don't have a powerful pc you can use hitfilm
duh vinci by a mile
iMovie is great for beginners. I’m probs biased bc I’ve always used it but I love it😂best of luck to ya!
Anything is free if you don’t pay for it
Paid things are illegal if got illegitimately
You sound fun at parties
You should use Clipchamp no cap. Its simple to use and it gives you practically everything you need. The only downside is videos are in 480p after export but hey, watermark free am I right.
I have been trying three different ones.
It isn’t for beginners at all but does anyone else here use Sony Vegas Pro? I’ve been using it for the past 3 years on YouTube and it was super intimidating at first but got used to it.
Vegas was my go-to before I decided to learn the ropes on Premiere. Haven’t looked back.
shotcut
Resolve. Period.
Openshot video editor it's ez to u use
DaVinci Resolve, it’s free, has no watermark and is good for begginers
Final Cut Pro
I use Davinci Resolve 16 and it is AMAZING!! You should try it too! It works like it’s a paid software!
DaVinci Resolve is by far the best free software. However, depending on your requirements, it could be overkill. For me it is, so I use Kdenlive + OBS to live edit my videos.
I'm surprised no one uses openshot. Any reason why? It exports upto 4k, has effects and alot of features, like saturation and chroma key and is fairly easy to use. I use it myself!
I used to use the free Cyberlink Powerdirector. It works well for beginners for simple editing.
Maybe you can try the free version of DaVinci Resolve. It is free and very powerful, but it may not be super intuitive for newbies. Or, if you simply want to cut or join videos, you can try Jihosoft Video Editor, which is one of the best video editing software for beginners. It is targeted to be a multi-functional video editing software, while the cutting and joining features are available now. Other video editing features like cropping, rotating, adding text and more will soon be available, according to the official state.
Any that use already installed voiceovers (e.g. similar to iMovie where you click the mic icon and start recording in the software, rather than having to start up a separate voice recording application)
If you want to learn to edit on PC, then I will suggest you learn Adobe premier.
you can edit your video on mobile. Kinemaster Pro APK is a video editing app. you can use it on your android or iOS mobiles
