About Zoom Earth

Zoom Earth shows live weather satellite images and the most recent aerial views of the Earth in a fast, zoomable map. Explore near real-time high-definition images, rainfall radar maps, animated wind maps, storms, wildfires and more. Previously known as Flash Earth.

Sources and Acknowledgements

Live imagery is updated every 10 minutes from NOAA GOES and JMA Himawari-8 geostationary satellites. Imagery from EUMETSAT Meteosat is updated every 15 minutes.
High-definition imagery is updated twice a day from NASA-NOAA polar-orbiting satellites Suomi-NPP, and MODIS Aqua and Terra, using services from NASA’s GIBS, part of EOSDIS. Imagery is captured at approximately 10:30 local time for “AM” and 13:30 local time for “PM”.
Aerial/high-zoom imagery is provided by Microsoft and Esri.
Storm tracks and forecast maps are created using the most recent data from NHC, JTWC, NRL and IBTrACS.
Animated wind speed forecast maps are generated using the NOAA-NWS GFS model.
Rain and snow radar maps are provided by RainViewer. Coverage is limited to populated areas with radar.
Fire/heat spots show sources of high temperature, updated daily using data from FIRMS via GIBS.
