Awesome program...
For the record, the install is hit or miss. I installed this on a Windows XP machine and it worked great without issues. On a Windows 7, there was an install issue but I found a work around, On Windows 8 and above, also an install issue but the work around worked for Windows 8 but not for Windows 10.
This is going to vary with different people. The issue is, during the install, it stops on a font file. It's as if it's looking for the font file, or it can't find the file as it installs and seeing if the file needs to be installed. Here's the work around for this issue. (Again, this may work, but then again, may not)
If the program stops installing on a ?.TTF file, try this trick...
1. Search for ''resource1'' rar file among the files within Britannica DVD
2. You can browse the disc and find ''Resource1'' rar file in: BritannicaDVD/installapp/Contents/Resources/Java/ Disc1/InstData/
3. Unrar ''Resources1'' to your desktop (only temporarily)
4. When unrarred you will find $WORKROOT$ folder along with a couple of jar files. Go to: $WORKROOT$/data/cd/shared/fonts, then copy all .ttf files and paste them in C:\Windows\Fonts folder
If it's not there, check in the Volumes\Macintosh_HD\EB_CD_DVD\BCD_New\data\cd\shared\fonts and install the fonts from there.
5. Restart the installation of the Encyclopaedia (you may be asked to uninstall or delete elements of previous installation)
That's it. If this doesn't solve it, not sure what to tell you. For some reason, it's an install bug that will hit or miss. I'm just sharing for those who might have this issue.
It's a great program with tons of references to various types of info, including a dictionary, historical moments in time, famous scientists, and tons of media files from photos to videos.
