John Frederick Stowe, Jr.
'Freddy'
BELMONT -- Mr. Stowe, 67, passed November 3, 2008 at his home. He was born January 22, 1941, son of the late Mary Etta Fisher Stowe and John Frederick Stowe, Sr. He grew up in East Belmont and later graduated from Belmont High School and attended Belmont Abbey College. He was a lifelong member of Park St. Methodist Church in which he held many positions including supervision of the building of the Family Life Center in which he took great pride. Freddy retired as President of Guy M. Beaty, Inc. after a long career in the Industrial and Commercial Insulation business in which he served as a Board Member of the Southeast Insulation Contractors Association (SEICA) for many years. He was also very involved with community youth Athletics including sponsoring many events and serving as the President of the South Point 'Big Red' Booster Club.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Marilyn Harper Stowe, son, Sean Stowe of Rock Hill, SC, daughters and son-in-law, Selina J. Stowe, and Scarlett S. and David Oiler, grandchildren, Alixandria, Ian and Egan Oiler, all of Belmont; niece, AJ Hutson and husband Scott of Mt. Holly; and cousin, Parks Stowe of Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family would like to thank our extended family members including, the Lewis family, the Gibson-Howe family and special friends, Susan Austin, Debbie Davis, Lien Truong and especially the members of Park Street United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stowe was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray 'Ducky' Stowe.
Visitation will be held in the Family Life Center of Park Street United Methodist Church, 120 Park Street, Belmont, on Wednesday, November 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Park Street UMC Sanctuary, Thursday, November 6th at 2 p.m. Officiating clergy will be Rev. Hal Schwantes and Rev. Joe Lawing. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Street UMC Elevator Fund, and Hospice of Gaston County.
