  Terence Fisher and Peter Cushing reunite for one last Frankenstein film, and it's the most gruesome of the series. Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell follows broadly the same trajectory as the other films, but this time its set in a mental asylum where the resident doctor is the famous Baron, and he's up to his old tricks again. The bulk of the film takes place in one location - the rugged stone asylum that lends the film an air of Gothic. Peter Cushing again portrays Frankenstein in all his sinister glory, with an understated evil bubbling just under the surface.   Wowzer!! This one is miles better than I remembered. I loved the whole wacky story, the beautiful asylum setting complete with miniature. But most of all Peter Cushing's return where he went from the most vile portrayal of the character in Must Be Destroyed to the most loveable here. He even cracks up at one point. Him and the fabulous Shane Briant made a fine, fine double act. I can only imagine what went through the young guys head during that face off between them. Must've thought all his Christmas' had come at once. A strange one in how the first 3rd of this film and other parts was almost like watching a 60s Corman-Poe film rather than a 70s Hammer. The atmosphere is ripe for a candlelight October viewing.

  When Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell begins, the creation of life has become an aspiration of urbane young doctors. No longer is challenging God only the territory of grubby figures, hiding in graveyards, or of a manipulative old man, as monstrous as his creations. In the film, it has become as normal as any other kind of surgery, a science embraced by men who are seemingly more sophisticated and even-tempered by all of those who would condemn them, or cast them into chains due to their superstitious beliefs and fears of the future.

  January Horror 2021, Day 13, challenge #5 - hell yeah!

  "If this experiment is successful, every sacrifice would have been worth it." Including all those times I died!

  So I guess this follows the continuity of Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, and he was not in fact destroyed in the raging inferno that absolutely would have destroyed him and he just singed his hands. ok whatever. It doesn't matter because this movie is awesome, the best since the first two. Peter Cushing is back and so is Terrence Fisher, and wow! Following the most inconsequential, least horrific entry (ironically titled The Horror of Frankenstein) comes the most horrific. Hammer really ended the series with a bang. (heh. Hammer. bang.   The second feature in Peter Cushing double feature night was definitely the superior of the two watches. Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell is the final film from Hammer studios Frankenstein cycle.   The most esteemed director among Hammer's rank, Terence Fisher, returns alongside Peter Cushing to redeem the studio's long-running Frankenstein series with this, its final chapter. For years I've heard nothing but good things about "Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell" and the film lived up to its reputation: in contrast to some of the other entries, like "The Evil of Frankenstein" and "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed," which often made me question if Hammer truly understood the appeal of the Mad Doctor, this screenplay from Anthony Hinds registers as tight, focused, and true to the spirit of Mary Shelley's source material.   This film marked the end of an era. It was the sixth and final time Peter Cushing would play Victor Frankenstein marking the last Frankenstein film for Hammer Films, but more importantly it was to be director Terence Fisher's last film. No other director was more closely associated with Hammer Horror then Fisher.

  Hammer's Frankenstein films have always felt special as they managed to distinguish themselves from the much more popular Universal Studios films. While the latter centered their films on the monster, Hammer centered theirs on Victor Frankenstein with him being the only reoccurring character across six films.

  DuBFaL-Horrorweeks - Film Nr.8 - Frankenstein an the Monster from Hell / Frankensteins Höllenmonster

  Horrorweeks ohne Frankenstein sind keine Horrorweeks. Aus diesem Grund hab ich mir diesen von mir noch ungesehenen britischen Frankenstein-Film aus dem Jahr 1974 ausgesucht. Doch dies entpuppte sich als der ominöse Griff ins allseits bekannte 🚽.

  Horrorfaktor: Null
  Gruselfaktor: Null
  Nostalgiefaktor: im unteren einstelligen Bereich
  Maske: mies

  Nicht annähernd erreichte diese Frankenstein-Version den Charme früherer Frankenstein-Filme, schon gar nicht den der Schwarz-Weiß-Filme.

  Das Monster sah mehr wie ein Affe 🦍 als ein Mensch. Den guten Darth-Vader-Darsteller David Prowse hat man da in ein Fassenachts-Ganzkörperkostüm gesteckt. Helau. Das sah einfach schrecklich aus.

  Hinzu kommt noch, dass Frankensteins Höllenmonster wie eine typische englische 08/15-TV-Produktion aus den Siebzigern rüberkam.…
