DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina cheerleading team posted two top-three finishes at the 2021 NCA National Collegiate Championships from April 8-10 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Chanticleers had two teams compete in the Small Coed Division 1A, one in the Advance division and one in the Intermediate division.
The Intermediate team placed second in the nation while the Advance squad placed third. In all, 145 universities and/or colleges participated in the National Championship. The CCU cheer squad has been competing in the national events since the late 1990s with this year's second-place being the best finish for a Chanticleer team.
"I am so proud of both teams' commitment, dedication, and performance on the stage at nationals. It was difficult in a year of dealing with a pandemic and all the restrictions and protocols that needed to be followed," said head coach
David Almeida. "We were so blessed to have the support of the University and athletic department to have the opportunity to go compete at the national championships in such a difficult year."
