Kasabihan: Filipino Sayings

The difference between a saying and a proverb? Not much.

According to definitions in the dictionary:

A saying (kasabihan) is an often repeated and familiar expression. Example of usage in sentence: That’s an old saying we have here in the Philippines.

A proverb (salawikain) is an old and popular saying that illustrates something such as a basic truth or a practical precept. Example of an English proverb: “Slow and steady wins the race.”

Simplified to the extreme, a proverb is a saying that is older and has more history!

    1. I can think of a resemblance in ‘Don’t stick your nose unto someone else’s business’ that means ‘interfering with someone’s business (and business, as in, matter o bagay in Filipino). I do not know what is the libro (book) for.

    2. Kasi physically, the nose is in between the eyes and it distracts the eyesight when you look at it while you read. It means na tutukan mo ang pagaaral, hindi ang mga disctractions like barkada, bisyo, etc.

  1. Thus saying hit my nerves like it is cutting deep inside me.
I felt like inspired and motivated..Yeah it is a motivation, indeed.
