      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

If Sea Fever never quite heats up as much as it could, it remains an engrossing, well-acted sci-fi thriller with effective horror elements.

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It's made well, made intelligently, and it uses a very small budget with confidence...I was really surprised by how much I liked it. May 4, 2020 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's mostly agony. Rated: 1/5 Apr 26, 2020 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service An absorbing (if sometimes muted) wrestle with the notions of ethics and infection, in a moment that couldn't be more appropriate. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 18, 2020 Full Review Britany Murphy The Reel Roundup A film that warns about the ecological impact of humankind, as well as how little we truly know about the ocean and what lies in its depths, Sea Fever is a sci-fi thriller that's about more than just what lies on the surface. Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Jason Shawhan Nashville Scene As enjoyable as the 1989 Leviathan, but very much rooted in The Now. Sep 10, 2021 Full Review Nick Levine NME (New Musical Express) This spookily pertinent sci-fi thriller makes for a gut-wrenching watch in the age of coronavirus. Elizabeth D This movie was stupid from start to (especially) finish. A complete waste of time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Jeffrey P Slow burner with a steady pace and suspense throughout before an ending that was kinda bland. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Hatsuhito S SFだから仕方ないかもしれないが、突っ込みどころは満載だった。 一番の突っ込みどころは、行動学や化学を主役がテーマにしているのに映画がそうなっていなかったこと。 面白いだけに残念だった。 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Ricky R Enough going on to keep you in the story but unfortunately doesn't quite live up to its potential. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/23 Full Review Patrick S Kept my attention. Decent flick. Interesting creature. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/23 Full Review ronald h "Sea Fever" is an effective thriller about a fishing trawler that encounters a giant, slimy sea monster that infuses the vessel with a deadly flesh eating virus. It's well filmed and acted, and the special effects, while not big-budget spectacular, are quite good. The story is, of course, implausible, but the biggest implausibility is that the captain of a rusty old fishing trawler could actually look like Connie Nielsen.
