FBI Special Agents in Charge Appointed to 2 Divisions at Los Angeles Field Office

FBI Director Christopher Wray appointed special agents in charge of two important divisions at the Los Angeles Field Office. 

Krysti E. Hawkins will serve as special agent in charge of the Intelligence Division, and Joshua J. Murphy was appointed special agent in charge of the Mission Services Division. 

Hawkins, who most recently served as chief of staff to the deputy director at FBI headquarters, served in various leadership positions since joining the bureau in 2003. 

In 2019, Hawkins was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Criminal Division at the Los Angeles Field Office.  She also served as section chief of the National Covert Operations Section of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI headquarters in 2021, and she was named chief of staff to the deputy director in 2022. 

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Hawkins received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Nevada. 

Before his appointment, Murphy was inspector with the Inspection Division at FBI headquarters. 

Since joining the bureau in 2006, Murphy held a variety of leadership positions, including assistant special agent in charge of the Seattle Field Office’s Counterterrorism Branch in 2019. Murphy became assistant special agent in charge of Seattle’s National Security Branch in 2020. 

Murphy was promoted to inspector in the Inspection Division in 2021. 

Before joining the bureau, Murphy served on active and reserve duty as a non-commissioned officer and commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and the New York Army National Guard. He graduated from the University at Albany in New York.
