I am a US citizen, and flew into YVR to get married to my Canadian fiancee, only to be told that getting married was not considered "essential" and that I had to return to the states.

I had to get a flight the next day, and booked into the Fairmont to have an easy stay. I was astounded by the level of service from (I believe his name was Dimitri). Management, please confirm the employee who was on shift at approximately 4:00 pm on May 14th, as he deserves recognition.

I was met with the friendliest greeting I think that I've ever encountered at any customer-centric venue. Even through the mask, and behind the plastic panel, I felt his smile, even though I couldn't see it. I also work in a customer-centric venue, and hold a Management position. This guy is an ace. If I worked closer to BC, I would be offering him a job.

He was kind, patient (with someone who wasn't in the best place, having been told that their wedding was "not essential") and helpful to someone who wasn't familiar with the city. The one shining moment of the trip was the check in experience. If I am ever in YVR again, I'll be staying here. They know how to treat people, and they really make you feel special, even on your worst day.

Room tip: Even though my room faced the runway, I did not hear the aircraft landing/taking off. Great window insulation.

As a family and in previous years we have stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport several times when returning from overseas before catching a domestic flight the next day. Always a successful relaxation in a clean room with comfortable beds and a luxurious bathroom. This time our son spent the night on his own between two domestic flights on his way home from university. No complaints regarding room and service as usual.
As for the bitter note: while it is much appreciated in these times of Corona virus that the rooms are being disinfected, the extra cost of $20 is not. We would expect a five star hotel like this with high rates to be more generous with its guests (the way other service providers are, for example restaurants now offering free delivery) and waive the cost for the extra cleaning. Last but not least, not every guest enjoys sleeping in a room that smells intensely like bleach.
Secondly we were shocked to hear that there was an extra cost for wifi! Definitely not something to be expected of a 5 star hotel. Especially in times like these, where it needs less bandwidth due to a decrease of bookings.
We look forward to our next stay, hoping for a little more generosity!

Arrived tired puzzled and lost because we were trying to get home from Canada to UK
Given a room for night
Staff were so helpful
Gave us asssistance guidance and practical help
We stayed the night then had to extend it because of change of flights
Although skeleton staff each one gave of their all
It was fantastic really

The manager was amazing, the check in lady was amazing, the dinner server was amazing, the breakfast server was amazing, all the food was amazing...it can’t get any better than this for a layover..

Everything was perfect and all of the workers should be commended on their jobs.

Because of the corona stuff going on, the gym, spa, pool, and sauna, and gold lounge were closed after my first night. This is of course a bummer but I’m glad they took steps to minimize socializing and keep everyone safe.

The gym is very adequate with machines and free weights, the sauna and shower area were plenty nice private and inviting. The rooms were large and comfortable but the bathroom was very special where it was situated in the room, how the large it was, where everything was situated. There’s nothing to fault this place with... nothing.

We stayed here last year and we are hooked. Excellent rooms and a nice view of the airport activity. Such a treat to wake up , walk down stairs and go though security.
We were booked for this week and booked a non refundable room through hotels.com . Due to COVID19 we can't travel now. With ease we cancelled the room and got our money back.
