About
The New York State Executive Mansion is located on Eagle Street in downtown Albany. Since 1875, this house has been home to New York's governors and their families. It is a house that is eclectic in style, filled with history and rich with tradition. It remains a fitting symbol of the variety and greatness of the Empire State. SCHEDULE: Tours of the Mansion are offered September through June on Thursdays at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., 12:00, 1:00, and 2:00 p.m. to groups of 10 or more, up to a maximum of 30 visitors (including chaperones). RESERVATIONS: Reservations are required and must be made at least two weeks in advance. To schedule a tour, please call. SPECIAL RULE: Photo identification is required for all adults. COST: Tours are free of charge. LOCATION: Tours begin at the front center gate of the Mansion, 138 Eagle Street, Albany. LENGTH: Tours last approximately one hour. ACCESSIBILITY: The Executive Mansion is fully accessible for persons with disabilities. Please inform us of any special needs when making your reservation. ARRIVAL: Please plan to arrive 5 minutes prior to the starting time of your tour. If you are going to be late, or must cancel a tour, kindly notify the Plaza Visitor Center. DIRECTIONS and PARKING: The New York Executive Mansion is a short walking distance from the Empire State Plaza. Starting on Madison Avenue in front of the State Museum, walk down the street to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and turn right onto Eagle Street. Entrance to the Mansion is through the front center (pedestrian) gate. Parking is not available at the Executive Mansion. Buses may unload passengers at the front gate. General Tour: The general tour takes the visitor on a journey through the Mansion, examining its roles as both an official residence and a private home to New York's governors and their families. Tour discussion focuses on past and present New York State governors, architectural history, furnishings and artwork, and the Mansion's present existence as a LEED-certified building. Student Tour: The student tour focuses on four key periods in the Mansion's history: the Victorian era, 1920s to the mid-1930s, 1960s to the present, and the 21st Century. Through the use of artifacts, furnishings and art, students will explore the Executive Mansion's significance to the culture and history of New York State. The tour culminates with a discussion about the Executive Mansion in the 21st century, including the importance of sustainable living and the Mansion's LEED-Gold certification.

The best mansion art tour north of Olana; It's worth making the advance reservation with limited access on Tuesday afternoons.

While looking online for info on the NYS Capitol, I saw that tours were available for the Governor's Mansion. It was an easy process to call, provide names of our party, and I got a confirmation of our tour the next day.
We ended up having our own private tour on Thursday at 2pm, which was perfect. Our guide Kathleen was knowledgeable and engaging, and gave us an excellent tour. The tour addresses the mansion's architectural history, famous visitors, how it's used (from the swearing-in to the Easter Egg festivities), and stories about the governors and their families (think Roosevelts). You'll see many old photos that add to the history and presence of this beautiful mansion.

You must make an appointment at least 2 weeks before. They only give tours on Thursday. We had a hard time finding our how to enter the house. We had to go in through the guard house located at the driveway. Make sure to bring your paper work. The house is not really being used, since the governor and his family do not live here full time. It was interesting to see the decorated rooms and learn of the history of the house.

Hearing the history and seeing many rooms in the mansion was very interesting. Our tour guide was excellent. When I looked at the website it appeared the only way to do a tour was in a group of 10 or more. I called and found that individuals could book space for the 2pm tour on Thursday afternoons. It was the only day & time for tours that weren't groups. You need to book this ahead of time and have a printed copy of the confirming email and photo ID with you when you meet at the gate in front of the Mansion (the gate by the guard house). The instructions were pretty specific - ex be there no more than 5 minutes prior to the tour time. Plan on about an hour for the tour.

Mansion built in 1856, bought by Governor Samuel TIlden (born in my home town!) in 1875 and the official governor's residence ever since. Beautiful Renaissance revival furniture & the artifacts of over 30 governors, several presidents. Worth the tour.

Tucked away behind numerous trees, you only get glimpses of this magnificent old mansion.A few more trees must have grown since the photo shown was taken. well worth wandering down to.

Amazing history - our tour guide was so knowledgable. I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, she was very petite and personable. The history is remarkable, the house has many of the original articles that have been passed down from governor to governor (the dining room set, china, silverware etc.) There is lots of art work on loan throughout the house. Didn't realize how many NYS governors have gone on to be President! Enjoyed seeing FDR's lap pool. I understand why the governors chose not to live here, its a bit isolated. All New Yorkers should visit but you need to sign up ahead of time, the website says 2 weeks but I signed up 1 week in advance. Parking may be tough as well so get there early. Also the tours are only on Thursday from 10-2.

You must be invited enter. Antiques and Tiffany lamps inside.next door to the Roman Catholic .Located in a less affluent section of the city. Again, you won't be able to enter without an invite. There are no special tours that I amaware of.

The NYS Executive Mansion is open for tours. We only viewed the outside. They have guided tours but require reservations a week or two in advance. Maybe next wime I'm in Albany.
