Songfacts®:

  • Much of the lyrical content on Honey is downbeat, a result of the death of Robyn's close friend and collaborator Christian Falk and the breakup of a relationship. However, she ends the record on a more optimistic note in which she declares defiantly, "Never gonna be broken hearted, ever again!"

Robyn told Pitchfork: "The song is defiant in that maybe my heart will be broken again, but maybe I will think about it in a different way. Maybe I won't let it destroy me."
  • Robyn wrote the song with Metronomy's Joe Mount right at the end of making the Honey album. They had been working on the record for a long time and needed a break from all the downbeat songs on the record.

Mount started playing some chords on his synthesizer, which Robyn really liked. Inspired, she came up with the chorus for "Ever Again" instantly and the song was easy to complete after that.
  • The sensual video, directed by Colin Solal Cardo, finds Robyn dancing on her own again. We see her swirling and grooving surrounded by fragmented ancient statues as she slowly strips off her Louis Vuitton silk blouse. The clip is set in "a dreamy place, somewhere undefined, somewhere in my unconsciousness," Robyn explained in a statement.
