More than just feet and sex appeal? The whole story behind Juri's meteoric success in Street Fighter

If you type "Why is Street Fighter's Juri so popular?" into a reddit search (making doubly sure your NSFW filters are on first, of course) you'll quickly get the most obvious answers: she's hot, she's got a sexy attitude, and... feet. In essence, she's a waifu that tons of people in the Street Fighter community find attractive to engage with either by playing as her, seeing her story unfold, or appreciating the fan art and cosplays she's so often represented through.

Reddit isn't wrong, but there's a good bit more to the character of Juri than just feet and sex appeal, as plenty of other roster members from over the years have more or less checked these same boxes without hitting anywhere near the same levels of success.

Why Season 3 Abigail might have actually been the most overpowered character in Street Fighter 5 history

Looking back at each season of Street Fighter 5 it's fairly easy to point to a character or two that were clearly a full head and shoulders over their fellow roster mates in terms of balance, but none have as big a head or shoulders as Abigail. As such, we're taking a look at an in-depth argument for his reign at the top during Season 3 being the most egregious example of an overpowered SF5 character (and that's really saying something).

Taking us on this journey is Big Yellow as he highlights why the big bodied autophile was perhaps actually more of a menace than any of the crazy top tiers of Season 1, Rashid in Season 2, or even Luke in the game's final season.

Bet you've never seen someone perform the Daigo parry with one hand and simultaneously load a game into a Sega Dreamcast before

Performing the legendary Daigo parry in any game that you can do it in is tough. Doing it one handed is tougher. Doing it with one hand while using the other hand to switch out and load a game into your Sega Dreamcast? That's god tier.

It should come across as no surprise to those who are familiar with his work that the person behind the incredible feat described in the headline of this story is none other than combo wizard, Desk. The content creator recently shared a clip of him performing the Evo Moment 37 parry in Street Fighter 5 with his right hand while simultaneously loading a game into a Dreamcast with the other.

Following Chun-Li, Cammy is next in line to receive detailed weightlifting statues that'll turn heads and your wallet

Figures and statues are some of the most versatile collectibles for fans since they could get something cheap to display for like $10 or go for broke on something crazy that really doesn't have a price limit.

Premium Collectibles Studio may fall more on the latter category with their large, detailed pieces, and they've got something new that'll turn the heads and wallets of Street Fighter fans with a line of powerlifting Cammy statues.

The bizarre story of Street Fighter's least successful protagonist

There's a good chance you don't even know it because Capcom doesn't tend to highlight them as much as they could, but Ryu isn't the "main character" of each Street Fighter game. He was back in the early games, but after Alpha 3 developers decided to anchor their story threads around other newcomers (while still widely keeping Ryu as the face of the franchise).

The protagonists of each game have seen varying levels of appreciation and success, but perhaps the most interesting instance comes from the least interesting protagonist: Street Fighter 4's Abel.

Smug's reaction to seeing impressive Dudley mod in action for Street Fighter 5 is as good as you'd expect

There's some fighting game pros out there who've become intrinsically linked to a particular character, and fans are going to want to see their reactions when they get announced.

Unfortunately, Dudley hasn't been revealed for Street Fighter 6 (yet), but we got to witness the next best thing for now with a ridiculously impressive mod of the boxer in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, which of course caught the attention of the one and only NE|Smug.

Dudley's missed the past 2 games but this ridiculously impressive mod shows what could have been for the boxer in Street Fighter 5

Despite being one of the more highly requested characters from the Street Fighter 3 era, Dudley has been missing in action throughout Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 6 (so far) wit no real hint at his return yet.

That's where the talented Ryuski and Killbox stepped in to show off what the boxer could look like in a more modern title by dropping a trailer for Dudley in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition as a ridiculously impressive mod with his own moveset and mechanics.

Why has Zangief's Green Hand vanished from Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 6?

Jmcrofts recently put out an interesting video that talked about Zangief's Banish Flat special, which was originally a mistranslation of "Vanishing Flat," but is most commonly known as the "Green Hand."

The Green Hand was a staple part of Zangief's kit in Street Fighter 4, but was removed in Street Fighter 5. Though many fans expected the Green Hand to return in Street Fighter 6, this did not pan out. Needless to say, Jmcrofts shared a few of his theories as to why the move has disappeared from Zangief's arsenal in the latest Street Fighter entries.

Desk's latest video has him returning to Street Fighter 5 to perform combos that emphasize the craziest usage of fireballs

It would seem that Desk has returned to Street Fighter 5 to record a new combo video. This particular video emphasizes the unique usage of fireballs.

Ultimately, this is a combo video for Urien that has him using the Aegis Reflector to incorporate as many fireballs into his combo as possible. Though the goal revolves around securing projectile hits, many of these sequences end up taking over 50% stamina from opponents.

Everyone here is almost assuredly quite familiar with Evo Moment #37 and the impact its continued to have on the fighting game community, but there's been plenty of other ridiculous comebacks that have taken place since then.

How a fish can perform a real life Hadoken from the Street Fighter series... sort of

Street Fighter's Hadoken is one of the most iconic techniques in all of gaming. Both Ryu and Ken, the first Shotos of Capcom's Street Fighter series, are able to perform the special attack though Ryu is generally supposed to have the more refined technique.

The Japanese word for Hadoken actually translates to "surge fist" or "wave motion fist." However, it turns out that one might not even need a "fist" or even a hand to perform the iconic fireball of the Street Fighter franchise.

The deeply clever design behind M. Bison that makes him one of the most important characters in all of Street Fighter

We recently published an episode of Talk and Block in which we brought up a handful of characters we think would make good returners for Street Fighter 6 DLC, and M. Bison was at the top of the list. While plenty of viewers agreed with the sentiment, a great many did not, which I was somewhat surprised to see.

While I'm not a particular fan of playing the character, my more recent studies of deeper Street Fighter lore and character significance have routed me to and from Bison more times than I could can count. This in turn led to the realization that Bison is an incredibly deep character who's design serves the Street Fighter franchise on more levels than you'd think; maybe he actually should be a mainstay?

Street Fighters 5 and 6 sure do share a lot of similar animations with this old Sailor Moon fighting game from 1994

You know how everyone and their mother started copying Street Fighter after monster success Street Fighter 2 saw in the early 1990's? Well, amid that surge of fighting game frenzy a little title for the Super Nintendo came out called Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen (known more briefly as Sailor Moon S, thank goodness) and it's had a surprising amount of staying power since its debut in 1994.

Those who are familiar with Sailor Moon S, like creative combo master Desk, noticed a bit of overlap between it and Street Fighter games. Makes sense, right? Except that the Street Fighter games in question are a bit more recent (2016's SF5 and 2023's SF6) and it seems Capcom may have been a tad inspired by a game that it itself surely inspired the creation of.

All the characters who survived Raging Demon, Street Fighter's 'deadliest' attack

Of all the iconic techniques in Street Fighter, one stands above the heap as the single most powerful: Raging Demon. The reason? It not only sees the victim attacked with countless physical strikes, all of which are potentially deadly, but also attacks their very soul with a karmic force fueled by the weight of all their sins in life.

This move is practiced primarily by one character, Akuma, who strives to be the most powerful fighter on the planet. The thing is, as powerful as Akuma is, he's actually landed Raging Demon a handful of times (both in and seemingly outside of canon) and almost every victim has, for one reason or another, walked away from the encounter. Continue on to see whom and how.
