Nelly Korda is one of the best-known golfers. She was born on July 28, 1996, in Bradenton, Florida, USA. She is the daughter of Petr Korda and Regina Rajchrtová, both former tennis players. She turned professional in 2016 and has 14 professional wins under her belt. She is the only American golfer to win four times throughout the LPGA Tour season.

Her professional debut was in 2016 on the Symetra Tour. She won against Wichane Meechai by three shots. With her remarkable ability, she finished the season ninth on the money list, ensuring her LPGA Tour membership for 2017. In 2018, she won her first LPGA Tour title by winning the Swing Skirt LPGA Taiwan Championship in Taoyuan. The win made history as she and her sister, Jessica Korda, became the third siblings to win on the LPGA Tour.

She came back into the spotlight on August 5 when she became the second American woman to win an Olympic gold medal. She won the competition at the 2001 Summer Olympics held in Japan. She was resting in March 2022 because of a blood clot in her arm. She was under treatment and returned to the competition at the US Women's Open, finishing within the top 10.

Who is Nelly Korda’s coach?

Korda is under the guidance of coach Eric Dietrich as of March 2024. The duo began working together around the Solheim Cup, and she has since changed her grip and putter. Korda stated that she feels more organized since moving to Dietrich. Korda has returned to a traditional grip after using a low left-hand grip. She also used a mallet putter for the first time in her career at the LPGA event in South Korea

Korda was also working with coach Jamie Mulligan. She announced the news a few weeks ago, ahead of her fourth LPGA victory this season. Korda met him through her sister and was aware that he had previously worked with six-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Cantlay. Mulligan concentrates on keeping her swing while acting as a sounding board for any ideas the swing-obsessed Korda has.

However, David Whelan was Nelly Korda's longtime coach. Whelan has coached Korda for nearly seven years and has seen the Briton rise from being a Symetra Tour player to a comfortable spot in the world's top 10. Whelan had a successful playing career before transitioning to teaching, with his best win coming on the European Tour at the 1988 Barcelona Open, where he overcame world number one Sir Nick Faldo in a four-hole sudden-death playoff. She took a brief break from Whelan in September 2020 to work with Justin Sheehan. However, the two reconnected in December.

Why did Nelly Korda split up with coach Jamie Mulligan?

Nelly Korda separated from her previous coach, Jamie Mulligan, due to a time management issue. However, they remain close and support each other's games and tactics. Korda still looks up to David Whelan for short games and local events. When she is home, she practices with Whelan at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
