Meet Ethan Hawke’s Four Kids – Maya, Levon, Clementine, and Indiana

Actor Ethan Hawke is a proud dad of four kids named Maya, Levon Roan, Clementine Jean, and Indiana.

He welcomed his first two with his ex-wife and actress Uma Thurman. The two were married in 1998 but sadly divorced seven years later. Maya was 7, while her younger brother was only three at the time. Three years later, he secretly married his now-wife Ryan Shawhughes

Shawhughes was actually his kids’ nanny, but there wasn’t any funny business as people might think. It was only a short stint, and then she went to Columbia to earn her degree. They reconnected in 2006, a year after his divorce, and the actor thought that an “extremely sensible, no bullsh–t woman” would be the perfect pair for a half-madman like him.

The two welcomed their first daughter, Clementine Jane, in the same year they were married. Three years later, they had another one named Indiana.

According to Hawke, his kids give him balance in life, and being their father is the greatest pleasure in his life. It was the only role that if he failed, he would consider his life a failure. So, let’s meet all four of them and get to know them a bit better.

Maya Hawke

Maya is the eldest of Hawke’s kids and his first daughter out of three. He welcomed her on July 8, 1998, with ex-wife Thurman in New York City. To many Stranger Things fans, she’s more popularly known as Steve Harrington’s Scoop’s Ahoy partner, Robin Buckley.

Maya has dyslexia, and because of that, she has frequently changed schools in her primary years. However, she found her footing when she enrolled at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, which concentrates on artistic creativity. That led her to discover acting in her junior year of high school, taking part in summer studies at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and New York’s Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

After that, she studied BFA in acting at the prestigious Juilliard School. She dropped out a year later when she accepted her debut role as Jo March in the 2017 BBC miniseries adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, which had undoubtedly made her father proud.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the actor shared that Maya didn’t only do a good job. She did great. And seeing her thrive in a profession that he respected and dedicated his life to was just amazing.

Maya has since made a name for herself in the industry, with acting credits in the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things, Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” Gia Coppola’s “Mainstream,”

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “Do Revenge” and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” to name a few.

She also got the opportunity to act alongside her dad in 2020 in The Good Lord Bird, where she portrayed the role of her father’s character’s daughter.

According to the actress, she hoped to work with her dad her whole life. “He’s my greatest teacher and my greatest adviser, and it’s an honor to get to work alongside him.” In fact, it was her dad who helped her land the role in Tarantino’s film.

Of course, she also ran decisions by her mom. Speaking with Wall Street Journal, Maya said that both her parents had similar levels of success but way different experiences within the business. Their advice was her biggest advantage to hopefully not make the mistakes young actors like her can make.

Maya’s artistry isn’t only limited to acting. She’s also a singer-songwriter, and she credits her dad for helping her find her passion for it. In fact, music has become one of their bonding moments. She even made a Swiftie out of her dad after she played Taylor Swift’s “Ours” on the guitar.

In September 2022, Maya released her sophomore album Moss.

Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke

Four years after welcoming Maya, the ex-couple had their second child, Levon Roan, on January 15, 2022. Levon is the actor’s only son, and he was reportedly named after his father’s musical hero, Levon Helm of The Band. In a 2022 article published by Deadline, he studied Philosophy at Brown University.

Levon is into acting just like his older sister and father. He appeared in the Apple TV+ drama anthology The Crowded Room with Tom Holland, Emmy Rossum, and Amanda Seyfried, his debut TV role.

He is also set to be a part of Zoe Kravitz’s provocative directorial debut “Pussy Island,” starring Naomi Ackie and her fiancé Channing Tatum. Last March 2023, he was announced to be cast in Elliot Lester’s Western project “The Thicket” with Peter Dinklage.

He’s also into fashion. His sister, Maya, modeled at the beginning of her career for brands like Vogue, AllSaints, and Calvin Klein. While he hasn’t made any runways or campaigns just yet, he’s often seen accompanying his mom, Uma Thurman, to different fashion events, such as Dior couture shows.

When he’s not doing any of the two, he’s spending time with his dad watching basketball courtside. In 2015, the two were spotted at the NBA All-Star Game, where Hawke switched seats with him so that he could sit next to Rihanna.

Clementine Jean Hawke

Ethan Hawke had his first child with his now-wife Ryan Shawhughes in July 2008. Her name is Clementine Jean, and she’s the actor’s second daughter. In her early years, Clementine was babysat by her older sister Maya, who was 12 then.

Clementine’s first and only public appearance was when she joined her dad, Ethan, at the 36th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The actor presented the Montecito Award to Amanda Seyfried.

She’s in her teenage years and hasn’t been particularly interested in her father’s acting projects. That was until he starred in Moon Knight in 2022. According to the actor, the series’ trailer was the first time she recognized his work.

He shared that Clementine watched it on her phone and even said it looked really good with her eyes wide open. She also said that the kids at her school talked about it. He definitely impressed her on that one.

Indiana Hawke

Indiana arrived in 2011, three years after her older sister Clementine. She’s the youngest of the Hawkes and the third of his three daughters.

Indiana definitely got her artistic side in terms of music. Back in 2020, when everyone was doing social distancing, she, her three siblings, and her dad did a family sing-along with “To Live Is To Fly.” Maya led the vocals, with Indiana and Clementine doing the harmonies. At the same time, Levon and Ethan took care of the instrumental with their guitars.

Then, on Easter Sunday of 2022, the actor shared a photo of him with her now grown-up daughters, Indiana and Clementine, wearing cute pink bunny ears. Then, last July 2023, he posted a throwback photo of him and his three girls having some fun!

So there you have it. That’s all we got for Ethan Hawke’s kids!
