La Liga 2022/2023 Gameweek 19 Prediction

SportsBet

SATURDAY 28 JANUARY 2023 (GMT +7)

Almeria vs Espanyol

Almeria's winless run in the league stretches to four games now as they drew 2-2 with Valencia in their last game (D3 L1). Meanwhile, Espanyol pulled off a shock win against Real Betis in their last game to move up to 13th place in the La Liga standings with four games of unbeaten runs recorded recently (W2 D2). Martin Braithwaite’s fourth goal of the season was enough to seal Espanyol's three points when they entertained Real Betis at home last week. Carrying such a positive momentum going into this match, Espanyol will try to end their bad record against Almeria at Estadio del Mediterráneo where they were without a win in their last three visits there (D2 L1). There are no fresh injury concerns for both sides here with Adria Pedrosa and Keidi Bare the only confirmed absentees for Espanyol while the home side’s only injury doubt is their Brazilian center-back Kaiky. After three straight home games in La Liga, Almeria is currently without a win in their last two (D1 L1). It will breed the confidence for the visitor to continue their excellent form by getting something from this match. I predict a narrow victory for the visitor here.

Prediction: 45 – 55

Cadiz vs Mallorca

10th place Mallorca will travel to Estadio Ramon de Carranza to face 19th place Cadiz tomorrow. Cadiz is still stuck in the relegation zone after only winning once in their last five games in La Liga (D2 L2). So far, they have collected 16 points from 18 games in La Liga, and getting a result here could push them away from the relegation zone. However, it will not be an easy task for them to get a result against Mallorca as the visitor has a good record against them recently (Cadiz has lost five of their last six games in La Liga against Mallorca (D1)). But it is also worth noting that Cadiz has not lost any of their last six home games in La Liga, drawing five of them (W1). Cadiz’s goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma will play another important role here after he produced another excellent performance by recording 8 saves when they face Sevilla in their last game in the competition. He is the goalkeeper with the most saves in La Liga this season (83 saves from 18 games) while keeping clean sheets on five occasions. Mallorca’s attacking unit has to find their scoring boots to beat him here. The visitor will be boosted by the return of their most-creative player, Lee Kang-In as he has finished serving his suspension in their last game. Three points could take Mallorca to 6th position here and I back them to deliver.

Prediction: 45 – 55

Girona vs Barcelona

A big challenge is coming Girona’s way as the current league leader Barcelona will travel to Estadi Montilivi tomorrow. Boasting the best defense in the league, Barcelona will try to end Girona’s unbeaten run in their last five home games in this match (W2 D3). The visitor will go into this match on the back of seven straight wins in all competitions and the last they got defeated was back at the end of October last year when they got beaten 3-0 by German side Bayern Munich. Moreover, the home side is without a win in their last four meetings with Barcelona (D1 L3), conceding 3.2 goals per game on average. But a bit of good news for Girona is that Barcelona will be without their top scorer Robert Lewandowski as he will be out suspended alongside Ferran Torres in this game. On the other side, Santiago Bueno will miss this game for the same reason. Girona’s manager Michel will be disappointed to see his side end their best unbeaten run in the league (W3 D4) when they got beaten 1-0 by Villareal in their last game in La Liga. He will demand his side to put a proper response to that by performing well in front of their home supporters in this game. But Barcelona will still be Barcelona. I believe Barcelona’s superior quality in their squad despite missing Robert Lewandowski will see them through in this game.

Prediction: 45 – 55

SUNDAY 29 JANUARY 2023 (GMT +7)

Sevilla vs Elche

Sevilla climbed out of the relegation zone after beating a fellow relegation zone occupant Cadiz in their last game. Despite failing to follow that up with a win in the Copa del Rey as they were beaten 2-1 by Osasuna, they will be fully concentrated in the league to avoid getting involved in a nervy relegation battle at the end of the season. They will entertain Elche next in La Liga at home, a team that is still yet to record a single win in the league so far. Elche arrived at this match after a back-to-back draw in the league against Cadiz and Osasuna. But they are still stuck at the bottom of the table, collecting only six points from 18 games. They also currently hold the record for the fewest goals scored in the league and also the worst defense in the league with 36 goals conceded so far. That surely opens up a good opportunity for the home side to continue their push out of the relegation zone with a win here. Moreover, Sevilla has won their last 4 home matches against Elche in all competitions so all signs really lead to three points for the home side here. Keep an eye on Ivan Rakitic here as he has been very important for Sevilla recently with 2 goals and 2 assists recorded from his last five appearances for Sevilla.

Prediction: 60 – 40

Getafe vs Real Betis

Manuel Pellegrini’s side failed to push to the top 4 after only getting one win from their last five games in La Liga (D2 L2). If they failed to start picking up three points then there is a good chance they will keep dropping down the table. Tomorrow they will travel to Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to face Getafe, a team that has experienced three straight defeats in the league recently. Getafe is currently 16th in the league and has won only once in their last five games in the competition (L4). Interestingly, Getafe has kept a clean sheet in their last 4 home matches against Real Betis in all competitions. It will be a big test for Real Betis’ top scorer in the league with 8 goals Borja Iglesias to try to add more goals to his tally. But the visitor will miss a bit of quality in their attacking unit as Juanmi and Nabil Fekir will miss this match through injury. Meanwhile, they will also miss their key center back Luiz Felipe as he is out suspended for this game. It will be good news for Getafe’s forward duo Borja Mayoral and Enes Unal who have a combined 9 goals between them this season. It will be a tight game and there is a good chance the spoils will be shared in this match.

Prediction: 50 – 50

SUNDAY 29 JANUARY 2023 (GMT +7)

Real Valladolid vs Valencia

Real Valladolid is deep in trouble now as they recorded 5 straight defeats in the league and are down in the relegation zone as a result (18th). To make it worse, they failed to score a single goal in that period and next they will face Valencia, a team that is yet to be beaten by them in the last 12 meetings before this (D5 L7). However, Valencia is still struggling to find their best form under Gennaro Gattuso this season. They are without a win in their last three games in La Liga (L2 D1) and so far, they have only collected 20 points from 17 games. But it is also worth noting that Valencia only got beaten once in their last five away games in La Liga (W1 D3). Both teams will be without several of their first-team players here with Real Valladolid will be missing Kenedy and Anuar Tuhami through injury while Valencia will be without the service of Nico Gonzalez and Jaume Domenech. With Valencia winning four of the last five meetings with Real Valladolid, I believe they will be able to continue that positive record in this match to record their sixth win in the competition. The availability of Yunus Musah, Ilaix Moriba, and Edinson Cavani for Valencia will be a big differential in this match.

Prediction: 45 – 55

Osasuna vs Atletico Madrid

Osasuna will welcome the visit of Atletico Madrid to Estadio El Sadar full of confidence as no team managed to beat them in the last six games across all competitions (W4 D2). Last time out, they get a 2-1 victory over Sevilla in Copa del Rey to progress to the semi-final. Carrying such momentum, they will face Atletico Madrid, a team who always beat them in the last eight meetings in La Liga. Osasuna also failed to score a single goal in six of those. However, with the home side currently in a good form at the moment things would get more interesting here. Atletico Madrid just got beaten by their rival Real Madrid in the quarter-final of Copa del Rey ahead of this match and it will be interesting how they will respond to that defeat here. Stefan Savic got his second red card in the last three appearances for Atletico and he will not be available for this match as a result. Another player who will not be available for Diego Simeone’s side is Marcos Llorente as he has not recovered yet from his injury. Meanwhile, Osasuna will still miss Nacho Vidal and Marcos Pena as both players are having issues with their muscles. This will be a very close contest and I expect the visitor to bounce back after their defeat against their rival in this match to continue their really good record against Osasuna.

Prediction: 45 - 55

MONDAY 30 JANUARY 2023 (GMT +7)

Celta Vigo vs Athletic Bilbao

Without a win in their last four games in La Liga (D2 L2), Athletic Bilbao will travel to Celta Vigo in a bid to end that winless run. The home side could only win once in their last five games in La Liga (D3 L1) and is just one place above the relegation zone at the moment (17th). The more worrying stat ahead of this game is that Celta Vigo failed to win any of their last five home games in the competition (D3 L2), scoring only one goal in each of them. This should breed confidence for Athletic Bilbao to take the initiative to attack from the start of the match even though they have also failed to win their last six games on the road in La Liga (D3 L3). They have the quality to do that with the Williams brother looking fit to start while Oihan Sancet and Gorka Guruzeta are set to be available for this match. But the home side also has the players who can hurt the visitor here in Iago Aspas and Fran Beltran who scored the winning goals in the last meeting between the two sides at Celta’s place. However, Athletic Bilbao is unbeaten in their last two visits to Municipal de Balaidos (W1 D1) and I expect that run to continue here as I predict a draw in this match.

Prediction: 50 – 50

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad

After suffering a defeat at Villareal, Real Madrid bounced back in style as they earned a comfortable 2-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao last week. They followed that up with a 3-1 win over their rival Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of Copa del Rey just a few days ago. After drawing 1-1 in the normal time, Real Madrid got the victory thanks to two extra-time goals from Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. With a game just played only a few days ago and it needs extra time to secure the victory, it is expected that Real Madrid might rotate their squad as they welcome the visit of Real Sociedad on Sunday evening. Real Sociedad’s run of seven straight wins in all competitions was ended by Barcelona in the quarter-final of Copa del Rey after they were playing with 10 men in the 40th minute after Brais Mendez was shown a red card due to violent conduct. He will miss this game as a result of what would be a massive blow for the visitor as he has contributed to 10 goals for Real Sociedad in La Liga this season (7 goals & 3 assists). The visitor already misses two of their very important players in Mikel Merino and David Silva in this match as both players will be out injured. It will be interesting to see how Imanol Alguacil Barrenetxea will have a solution to this injury problem in this game. Despite their injury problems I expect Real Sociedad to still pose a problem for Real Madrid here but I expect the home side to come out as a winner in the end.

Prediction: 55 – 45
