Olympia High School offers a wide range of programs to accommodate different interests. They offer many AP and Honors Courses, as well as Running Start. For students with interests outside of traditional academics, they offer a program called New Market which lets kids gain experience in firefighting, farming, car mechanics, and more. However, many teachers at the school don't care about their student's success or well-being and have little tact around sensitive subjects. Bathrooms are often shut down because of a lack of janitors or vandalism, and Buses tend to run late. They have many fun sports and clubs and designated time during the school day to participate in these activities with your peers. Overall I enjoyed my experience there but think there is room for improvement especially in regards to the staff.
I've had a fantastic time at OHS. The teachers are great at their jobs and prepare you well for college or whatever path you choose after high school. The culture is great. There's always something going on for students to get involved; clubs, sports, or other extracurriculars. The only downside I would say exists is the diversity isn't super high (roughly 60-70% white), but it's getting more diverse. Additionally, there is bullying present and it can feel like the administration isn't doing much to try and prevent it.
The best part of my experience at Olympia High School was participating in choir for all four years. We had the most amazing choir director who deeply cared about his students and each of their individual voices. When I first started choir I was very timid and shy of sharing my singing voice but by the end of high school I felt confident singing solos in the choir concerts. My music director is the reason I still do choir today in college. One of my worst experiences at Olympia High School was how challenging it was to figure out where I wanted to go to college. I didn't have a lot of support from my academic counselor in applying to colleges.
