That’s right: we’re talking about Emmy Rossum‘s Fiona, who left Shameless in the Season 9 finale. At the time, Fiona’s departure seemed final, but now that Shameless is in its final season, fans are dying to know whether she’ll return. Will Fiona be in the last season of Shameless? WHY IS FIONA NOT ON SHAMELESS?
In March 2019, Fiona, played by Emmy Rossum, left Shameless after nine season on the Showtime drama. After a season of turbulence, Fiona finally got her act together — she even went to AA with Lip! — and sold her stake in a South Side gentrification project for $100,000. The money gave Fiona an opportunity to finally do something for herself, and in the Season 9 finale, she left half the money for Debbie and took the rest with her on a plane to… somewhere. Shameless never revealed where Fiona would be going, but let’s hope that she’s on a tropical beach sipping frozen margs with Jimmy Steve.
WHY DID FIONA LEAVE SHAMELESS IN REAL LIFE?
When Rossum announced that Shameless Season 9 would be her last, the actress revealed that it was time for her to move on to other projects. “The opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift. There are few characters — female or otherwise — as layered and dynamic,” wrote Rossum in an emotional Facebook post published in August 2018. “She is a mother lion, fierce, flawed and sexually liberated. She is injured, vulnerable, but will never give up. She is living in an economic depression, but refuses to be depressed. She is resourceful. She is loyal. She is brave … Quite simply, the last eight years have been the best of my life.”
“I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she continued. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”
WILL FIONA BE IN THE LAST SEASON OF SHAMELESS?
Showtime has not offered any hints that Fiona will be back on Shameless, but if Rossum’s “moving down the block” comment is any indication, it’s certainly a possibility. So, keep your eyes peeled for an Emmy Rossum appearance in the Shameless finale!
