Emmanuelle Seigner is a French actress, model, and singer. After beginning her career as a teen model, Seigner made her film debut in 1984 with ‘Year of the Jellyfish’. Her talents were noticed early, and she was roped in to play the lead in Jean Luc-Goddard’s film ‘Detective’ next. While these movies helped her understand the world of acting, she became famous only after starring in the 1998 hit ‘Frantic’ alongside Harrison Ford. This marked her first in many collaborations with the established director Roman Polanksi. Her other films with him include ‘Bitter Moon’, ‘The Ninth Gate’, and ‘Venur in Fur’, all of which have been received positively by critics. She even won the International Cinephile Society Award for Best Actress in recognition of her acting talent in ‘Venus in Fur’. Seigner’s most famous film till day is the French drama ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’ (2007), which earned her global acclaim. Since the beginning of her career, she has not restricted herself to genres or languages and has earned the reputation of being among the most versatile actresses in the world. She was recently seen as the lead in the drama series ‘Insoupçonnable’ and has many other releases lined up for the future.

Seigner entered the big screen at a small age. She started working as a model at the age of fourteen. After making her debut in Christopher Frank’s ‘Year of The Jellyfish’ in 1984, Emmanuelle landed a role in a film by Jean Luc-Goddard titled ‘Detective’ (1985). This movie helped set her career on a firm footing. She was next seen in ‘Cours prive’ as Zanon. It was only in 1988 that Emmanuelle’s career took on a global dimension with her appearance in Roman Polanski’s 1988 hit ‘Frantic’, where she shared screen space with Harrison Ford. Soon, she forayed into Italian cinema with a prominent role in the award-winning movie ‘Dark Illness’ in 1990. She returned to Polanski’s next project ‘Bitter Moon’ in 1992, and the movie was a commercial and critical success.
Despite earning her name in Hollywood and Italy, Seigner continued to act in French movies. Her French releases from the 1990s include ‘Pourvu que ça dure’ (1996), ‘La divine poursuite’ (1997), and ‘Place Vendome’ (1998). She was nominated for the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Nathalie in ‘Place Vendome’. Her other appearances in the 1990s include many successful films, including the cult classic ‘Nirvana’ (1997) and the Polanski thriller ‘The Ninth Gate’ (1998). Her collaboration with Polanski continued to bring her fame and recognition. Her portrayal of the unnamed woman in Polanski’s ‘The Ninth Gate’ starring Johnny Depp, was widely appreciated by critics and audiences alike.
In the 2000s, Seigner starred in many hits. She was seen as Titine in ‘La Vie en Rose’ in 2007, which earned her a nomination for the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the same year, she essayed the role of Celine in ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’, a drama that became an international hit. Her other Hollywood releases from this decade include ‘Happily Ever After’ (2004) and ‘Backstage’ (2005). In the past few years, Emmanuelle has starred in numerous award-winning films, the most notable being ‘Venus in Fur’ (2013) and ‘Based on a True Story’ (2017).
