About Our ER Wait Time

Door-to-Balloon Time

When it comes to heart attacks, the faster the intervention, the better the outcome. The American Heart Association, Society of Chest Pain Centers and American College of Cardiology all recommend a door-to-balloon time of 90 minutes for heart attack patients. Door-to-balloon is the time it takes for a heart attack patient to receive an angioplasty once he or she arrives at the hospital. An angioplasty is a life-saving procedure where a balloon-like device is used to open up the impacted artery. Saint Mary’s interdisciplinary team of caregivers takes a collaborative approach to patient care and is always looking for new ways to improve door-to-balloon time for patients. We are proud of the fact that we lead the region in door-to-balloon time, with an average of 48 minutes.
