Tyrae Reid Jr. hired as new Morgan State wide receivers coach/pass game coordinator

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 26, 2024) — Morgan State University's football program is gearing up for another successful season with the recent addition of Tyrae Reid Jr. to their coaching staff. On Tuesday, the team proudly announced that Reid would be taking on the role of wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator under the leadership of third-year head coach Damon Wilson

This hire is a significant one for the program, as Reid is no stranger to the world of football. From the NFL to the college level, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table.

"It's a pleasure to have the opportunity to add Coach Reid to our staff as the Wide Receivers/Pass Game Coordinator," said Wilson. "Coach Reid has experience coaching at every level and is a Baltimore native. I look forward to coach Reid adding his experiences to our staff and developing our wide receiver room."

Prior to his role on Coach Wilson's staff, Reid had a successful tenure with the Washington Commanders. In 2022, he joined the team as an Offensive Assistant, where he worked closely with the quarterbacks. The following year, Reid took on the additional role of Assistant Receivers Coach, highlighting his versatility and ability to contribute to multiple areas of the offense.

Before joining the Commanders, Coach Reid had a successful coaching career at Bowie State University. He started off as a student assistant in 2013, working with the Quarterbacks. His passion and dedication to the sport quickly caught the attention of the coaching staff, leading to his promotion to Quarterback Coach in 2017. During his two seasons in this role, Reid helped develop and hone the skills of the Quarterbacks. In 2019, he was promoted once again, this time to Offensive Coordinator. In this position, Reid was responsible for designing and implementing the team's offensive strategies. His innovative and effective plays were crucial in helping Bowie State achieve success on the field.

His coaching career began at the Division III level as a quarterbacks coach at McDaniel College  (2014-16) in Westminster, Maryland. Reid took on multiple roles within the football program as he also served as an Academic Coordinator, ensuring that the players were excelling in their studies and balancing their academic and athletic commitments. Additionally, Reid took on the role of Video Coordinator, where he was responsible for analyzing game footage and creating game plans for the team.

During his time at Bowie State University from 2009 to 2012, Reid proved to be a standout quarterback for the Bulldogs. He started games in all four seasons (2009-2012) and was named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team (2009) in his very first year.

Reid holds a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Bowie State University (2014) and a master's degree in Exercise Science/Athletic Administration from McDaniel College (2016). A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Reid is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Reid currently resides in Baltimore with his wife, Jewel, and two sons, Tytus and Kobi.
