Floyd Mayweather has hinted at a return to the boxing ring just hours after being called out by Gervonta Davis. The boxing icon has been embroiled in a social media feud with his former protege Davis, who recently claimed he would knock Mayweather out.
Their public spat has taken a new twist after 'Tank' was questioned about a potential fight with Mayweather following the press conference to announce his upcoming bout with Frank Martin.
"Me and Floyd? A spanking," Davis responded.
Mayweather has since teased a return to the ring with an exhibition match in Mexico, as announced on his Instagram, with further details set to be revealed on May 15.
While it's highly unlikely that Mayweather and Davis will face each other, given their significant age difference and Mayweather's retirement from professional boxing in August 2017, the former five-weight world champion has continued to participate in exhibition matches and considers himself active in the sport.
His most recent exhibition bout was in June 2023 against John Gotti III, which ended in chaos as Gotti III was disqualified, sparking a brawl.
While Mayweather's opponent for the upcoming exhibition is yet to be confirmed, there have been rumors linking him to various challengers, including a proposed rematch with Gotti III, which failed to materialize.
The Mayweather-Davis feud
The relationship between Mayweather and Davis has soured since Tank's departure from Mayweather Promotions, the company that guided him to his first world championship in 2017.
Their working relationship deteriorated in 2022 when Davis decided to leave Mayweather Promotions and collaborate exclusively with his advisor Al Haymon.
