In high school, he earned all-state recognition as a defensive back and kick returner. He also secured the title of the New Orleans Times-Picayune District Most Valuable Defensive Player.

Later, he attended the University of Miami, earning an athletic scholarship, before making his debut with the Baltimore Ravens in the 2002 NFL.

On December 27, 2022, Reed accepted the new head coach position for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats football team.
