Edward (Ed) Gaughan, 82, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021. Ed was born on November 9, 1939, to Michael and Mary Gaughan at The Flower 5th Avenue Hospital in New York City and is predeceased by his older sister, Teresa (Gaughan) Gillman. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY, Ed joined the United States Marine Corps. Returning home after his service, Ed entered the New York Police Department, earning a degree in Behavioral Science from the New York Institute of Technology and retiring as Sergeant in 1982.

In 1965 Ed married his beloved wife Marjorie (Marge) whom he had known since their childhood in New York City. Ed is survived by Marge as well as his three daughters, Deirdre Anne Gaughan, Denise Marie Gaughan, and Marjorie Jennifer (Gaughan) Spaziante. Additionally, Ed is survived by his son-in-law Michael Spaziante, his granddaughters, Brianna Elizabeth Spaziante and Lauren Ann Spaziante, and Brianna’s fiancé, Daniel Obuchowski.

In 1999 Ed and Marge moved to Florida where Ed became a starter at the Martin County Golf and Country Club where he made many fast friends. A man of deep faith, Ed was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Hobe Sound. Ed truly loved his life in Florida, playing golf and travelling the world. A voracious reader, Ed also loved music (especially Doo-wop from the 1950s and 60s) and proudly told the story of playing the violin at Carnegie Hall with the Cardinal Hayes Orchestra. A wonderful addition to Ed’s life in Florida was his faithful Lab, Tara, who could be found sitting next to Ed’s living room chair.

A visitation for Ed will be held on December 14th, 2021, at Aycock Funeral Home and Prill Chapel in Stuart, Florida, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Hobe Sound on December 15th at 10:00 am. Interment will be private.

“The best portion of a good man’s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.” (William Wordsworth)
