East Orange, New Jersey—this is where my journey truly began. As an immigrant from Jamaica, it was the place I got to call home when I first arrived in the United States. The warmth and hospitality of East Orange welcomed me with open arms, offering me not just a place to reside, but a community that has shaped my aspirations and fueled my dreams.
What struck me the most about East Orange was its palpable sense of community—a community that values diversity and celebrates the richness of different cultures.
While East Orange has undoubtedly provided me with countless opportunities there are areas where I believe it can improve. For instance, investing in infrastructure and community development projects could further enhance the quality of life for residents and attract more businesses to the area.
In conclusion, East Orange has provided me with a home, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to pursue my dreams.

East Orange is a very urban area with access to the NJ Transit area and highways. However, that's where the good part ends. It is extremely dirty, and the majority of the residents are at fault for this. They do not own properties and only rent so they have no care for their neighborhood. There are constant break ins and robberies of cars. There are teenagers who cut school and terrorize some of the nicer apartment buildings on S Harrison Street. They break into the amenity spaces to vandalize. They break into cars in the parking lots and if they are caught by police, they are released only a few hours later. There was a shootout as well in front of a luxury property on S Harrison just a few months ago. It isn't safe at all for those who have families and/or need to commute to and from the train station at night. I would not recommend this area to anyone.
IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. THE NEIGHBORS ARE NICES AND TREAT YOU WITH RESPECT. You can go to others house with permission of course and chill with them.
Conveniently located near grocery store, restaurants and public transportation. Would like more grocery store options.
The mayor is doing really great things. He donates to the local schools for trips, makes sure the city is cleaned up very nice, and is very involved with student success.
It's a working class community and very diverse. It's easy to fit in here with the people and they have beautiful parks for recreational uses.
The community is very welcoming to everyone that lives there and it has a lot of different store that matches to different diverse groups.
IT SUCKS! You have to pay to park even though you own property. Pay taxes for nothing- garbage pick up people want to be bribed to do their job! Permits department is super unorganized they lose paperwork all the time and have scheduling errors too often! Can’t wait to leave! Do not move or invest here. No good gyms or shops. It just stinks!
What I love about East Orange, New Jersey is how diverse and how the community comes together. I would like to see more shopping centers.
Throughout the years of me being a resident in East Orange I've noticed subtle changes. I am ecstatic about the new housing developments that are undergo. It gives the town the ability to see luxury firsthand as oppose to traveling to e.g. Montclair, Short Hills, and or Morristown. It provides this sense of 'it's attainable'. One thing the grinds my gears is the countless fast food chains being brought into this town. One would thinks it's the Rodeo Dr of fast food. I would like to see healthier options being built. You can't change the people unless you change the environment!
I have lived in east orange my whole life and what I love most about it is how small our community is. East orange is such a small city so we basically l know each other.
it's a safe area, maybe because i live near a polic station i feel safe. has many stores around it however the mall is 30minutes away. it's a lovely place
This is not a safe area or somewhere I would recommend to live. There is no social life or night life.
East Orange is a community with a majority of working-class citizens and families and has a large immigrant population which adds to some of the enthusiasm and community that many of its residents have. Although East Orange seems to have a negative reputation due to its crime rate and its percentage of low-income residents it is home to many thriving businesses and shows some promise with the building of new apartment buildings and shopping centers
Ever since I moved here, I have been able to meet many great people. As long as you are kind and treat others well you will receive the same respect back. The schools here really care about your education and try to make sure that you work at your very best.
The city needs major help, the school system is terrible and it isn't safe here. Over the years I have seen many people move and I can't wait to do the same. The crime rate has increased and the cost of living here is average.
The neighborhood has improved since 2010, but it still has a long way to go. The schools are improving, the roads and everything as well, but taxes have also increasing and finding a home is difficult.
