Scripps reports Q1 2024 financial results
CINCINNATI – The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) delivered $561 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2024. Loss attributable to the shareholders of Scripps was $12.8 million or 15 cents per share. Operating results for the quarter include a pre-tax investment gain of $18.1 million and $5 million of restructuring costs. Business notes:Scripps now believes its 2024 election-year political advertising revenue will reach the range of $240 million-$270 million.
Scripps National Spelling Bee to host 245 spellers at 2024 Bee Week
CINCINNATI – The 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee brings a field of 245 competitors – the largest since 2019 – to National Harbor, Maryland, from May 28-30, including six former finalists and three four-time national participants. The national qualifiers advanced through local and regional bees that took place through early April.
State Farm® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight on ION includes new studio shows, the most games broadcast
ATLANTA – In its second season broadcasting WNBA games on ION, Scripps Sports is adding weekly studio shows to supplement the State Farm® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight on ION. ION will air 43 regular-season games, the most of any broadcast partner, including eight Indiana Fever games with 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark. The first of those is May 24 against the Los Angeles Sparks and Cameron Brink, the No. 2 overall draft pick.
Scripps appoints new president and CEO of the Scripps Howard Fund
CINCINNATI – Meredith Delaney has been appointed president and CEO of the Scripps Howard Fund, the philanthropic arm of The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP), effective May 8. She succeeds Liz Carter, whose retirement was announced in January. Delaney currently serves as director of philanthropic strategies for the Scripps Howard Fund, a public charity that supports philanthropic and journalism causes important to Scripps. She previously held the title of director of development.
Scripps Howard Fund establishes Roy Howard Community Journalism Center at The University of Southern Mississippi
CINCINNATI – The Scripps Howard Fund is investing $3 million to help student journalists learn how to cover under-reported communities while combatting misinformation and providing important journalism. The Fund selected The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) to host the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center. USM, which plans to launch the center during the 2024-25 academic year, will receive $1 million per year for three years to create and operate the center.
Scripps appoints Seth Walters to steer connected TV sales strategy

Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) is adding Seth Walters – a media executive with more than a decade of streaming TV experience – to its sales leadership team as head of CTV sales, effective April 29.
