Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc is investigating The Muppets in a new funny Knives Out poster edit. Rian Johnson’s whodunnit hit theaters in November 2019, and the film quickly took the world by storm, becoming a critical and commercial success. The film received praise for its modern take on the murder-mystery genre, the wonderful comedic touch it possesses with lines like “Eat s***,” and the fantastic performances from the all-star cast of Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, and Michael Shannon. Unsurprisingly, after collecting over $300 million at the box office, Knives Out will have a sequel with Benoit Blanc returning to solve a brand new mystery.

The original Knives Out explores the perceived suicide of wealthy mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey, but as renowned detective Benoit Blanc begins investigating, he suspects foul play. Not long after, the entire Thrombey family are suspects in Johnson’s intelligently crafted whodunnit. Thanks to the fun nature of Knives Out, it’s been a hub for countless online recreations. Whether it is the fun Knives Out social distancing poster, SNL’s sketch of Craig mocking his southern accent for Benoit Blanc, or even a more recent LEGO recreation of one of its scenes. So perhaps, unsurprisingly, the New Year is kicked off with Benoit Blanc investigating The Muppets in a new Knives Out poster edit.

In response to a fun tweet that asks people to “Pick a movie. Keep one actor. The rest are muppets,” @ChloeMashiter tweeted an amusing edit of the memorable Knives Out poster that Johnson then also retweeted. Instead of members of the Thrombey Family (and their nurse Marta) surrounding Benoit Blanc, the detective is now investigating The Muppets. The poster has Armas’ Marta replaced by Kermit the Frog, Curtis’ Linda is Miss Piggy, and the most amusing and appropriate switch is Christopher Plummer’s intense Harlan Thrombey is replaced by The Muppets’ grumpy faced Sam Eagle. Full poster can be seen below:

The poster is very amusing, and it’s fun to see which character The Muppets are taking over. Considering Marta’s leading role in the film, Kermit is likely the correct character to go into her shoes, and from a visual standpoint, Sam Eagle taking Harlan Thrombey’s place feels perfect. Also, considering the holiday season has just passed, and The Muppets were likely dominating television screens thanks to The Muppets Christmas Carol, it may not be a surprise to some that the New Year starts with a fun Muppets takeover of Knives Out. Although it is a fun visual, and one could potentially imagine a fun sketch that involves Blanc investigating The Muppets, it’s highly unlikely this mix of Muppets and Knives Out would ever become a real thing. No matter how much Johnson likes to play with the genre, and despite him seemingly finding the humor in the poster by retweeting it, this idea would probably be taking it a tad too far.

The comedic poster may also serve as a reminder that a sequel to Johnson’s popular whodunnit is on its way, as the director recently revealed that he’s struggling to come up with a title for a Knives Out 2. The director also shared that the sequel, which is “not really a Knives Out sequel,” will be totally different from the first film. Part two of Johnson’s burgeoning franchise will be different, and while it almost certainly won’t involve Muppets, it will be interesting to see what Johnson has in store a second time around. However, for now, fans can continue to enjoy the fun Knives Out edits, such as this new Muppets inspired poster.
