      Critics Consensus

This retelling trys to offer a different spin on the origin of Dracula. Unfortunately, there's nothing here audiences haven't seen before.

Lindsey M As someone who likes a trashy horror movie, I'm confident when I write that this movie is absolute trash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Dan R Our favourite blood sucker returned to cinemas in 2000 in 'Dracula 2000'. SYNOPSIS: 'A group of thieves breaks into a chamber expecting to find paintings, but instead they release the count himself, who travels to New Orleans to find his nemesis' daughter, Mary Van Helsing.' The film comes with the catch phrase 'the most seductive evil of all time...' which is ironic as this is Gerard Butler 6 years before his body transformation for '300'. He's more pail and scrawny here. This seemed to be an excuse to bring the famous character back to the silver screen with a bunch of gorgeous 20-30 somethings for him to devour. Unfortunately it doesn't work, and their obvious plan for a sequel clearly never came off either. The film is occasionally interesting, maybe even intriguing, with it's Dracula origin twist but it doesn't lead anywhere remotely worth a recommendation to watch it. Most of the cast went into bigger and better things but unfortunately there's very little life here. 3/10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Jelisije J An ok vampire story with an ok plot. The real kicker is the amount of famous celebrities that starred in this film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Arc G Definitely a home movie, to pass some time Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review koda _ Really (really!) cheesy, but there are worse films to watch on a Sunday when you just want to switch off with a bit of fun. So bad it's good type of movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review John W Dracula 2000 is a movie if executed properly would have been really good. I don't hate this film. There's some elements to it that I really like especially the reveal to Dracula's origins. After watching it 20 years later I dont think the film did a good enough job explaining why he became Dracula in the first place. Gerard Butler's first ever starring role is fun to watch, even though he's not really given that much to do. It's a unique take on Van Helsing and I like the little nods to other Dracula lore, but this film is weighed down by bad dialogue and cheesy Matrix like action. This movie could have been fun, but Dracula 2000 didn't embrace the campiness enough. It tries to go for humor, but falls flat on its face. It's trying too hard to be smart, hip and contemporary, but fails in that department. This movie has Christopher Plummer, Nathan Fillion, Omar Epps, Jeri Ryan, and Jennifer Espisito in it. It's not lacking in the casting department. This isn't the worst Dracula film, but it could have been so much better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/22/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: C- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Mary, a descendant of the prototypical vampire slayer, works at a Virgin megastore in New Orleans, and the gratuitous use of the city during Mardi Gras is the least of this movie's unoriginal sins. Oct 20, 2009 Full Review Time Out One half-expects a sexually subversive, blood-soaked gay carnival. Instead, Simon makes the effete Dracula (Butler) suck on some abuse. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers Butler is certainly charismatic as the undead bloodsucker, despite only having two expressions: slight bafflement, and, when an attractive neck comes into view, that of a small boy who's just heard an ice-cream van tinkling round the corner. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 23, 2020 Full Review Kaleem Aftab The List Has its moments, comic and heart-in-the-mouth, especially when Butler's Dracula is allowed to strut his stuff. Rated: 3/5 Apr 16, 2019 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal A milquetoast Matrix-y vampire movie that cobbles together a bunch of Scream franchise castoffs or wannabes, salvaged (if at all) by some suave charisma by Gerard Butler, playing Dracula in his major Hollywood debut.
