Doctor bites security guard at Myrtle Beach resort

A local doctor was arrested Tuesday and charged with simple assault and battery in connection with an incident at Sand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach.

Robert Lewis Pugh, Jr., 53, was charged with simple assault and battery after allegedly attacking a security guard at the resort, police said. The victim stated Pugh was being loud and aggressive at the resort’s bar, and when he left the victim tried to detain him.

Pugh tried to swing at the security guard and hit his right shoulder, police said. The victim tried to stop Pugh from entering an elevator when he pushed the victim to the ground, according to a police report.

Pugh bit the victim while he was being handcuffed. While in jail, Pugh said he bit the victim because the victim fondled his private parts, police said.

Pugh is a doctor at Palmetto Internal Medicine in Murrells Inlet. He was taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail.
